Rare? It's next to impossible to win, because several rounds are played on neutral grounds and with playoff Enth. So even if you were lucky enough to get there, D1 teams do not throw games against D2 teams at that stage. In fact they will throw league games and go all out in the cup...and they have a 2-300k salary advantage over D2 teams.

Weird stuff happens (261388.1) (72600399), but you'd need to dodge good D1 teams until the final and then hope for injuries or...that he forgets to set the lineup, like Crossley did in s28.

What you listed are all cases where the better team gave up (completely or in part) the cup game to do better in the league. The reasons you don't see 16 D1 teams are simple:
- the draw is random, so a D1 can play a D1 team and know him out. As I said elsewhere, one season I played 4 D1 teams in the first 6-7 rounds
- weaker D1 teams may focus on the league to avoid relegation and give up on the cup

Stronger D1 teams rarely give up on the cup (because they have no problem getting in the playoff with a good seed even giving up a few league games), so it's usually other D1 teams that knock them out.

Speaking of changes, wanna talk about the awful current training system?
I really don't because this is not reversible and I'm pretty sure any change or proposal about training will lead to endless discussions. It's also a bit harder to implement than scheduling routines.

hrudey did have a sensible proposal years ago that was widely discussed and was quite smart. Now I'm bummed because while I was searching for the thread I found out that both Manon and hrudey are bots.

Also, yes, I did ban them. You don't stop being a GM. Never. Ever. We ban you. Mafia style.
I knew you'd do the right thing and send them off in style!

As a new user I agree that the pace needs to be sped up.

I started on May 20 (so exactly three months) and I’ve had four games against non-bots. I’m very very unlikely to promote as one of the sides that demoted last season are streets ahead of the other three of us, so I’ll probably be in the same situation again next season. If another demoted side comes into my league again next season who are also way better than us and I can’t promote it would be 9 months with about 12 games against humans and some additional playoff games.

I play another management game for another sport (cricket - FTP), so I understand that it’s going to take patience and I am planning to stay in it for the long haul, but I don’t think all new users will be in the same boat and can see other new users quitting after being sick of 6 months of easy wins against bots.

I am 46. I play BB for more than 10 years and still love and hate it. Besides some minor tactics and economy adjustments, the game is still very addictive to me.
Although, I believe it is too complicated to have some motivation for the beginners. The game is not easy at first sight, they won't win matches very often, the budget, arena and player skills will increase very slowly, and this is not compatible with most new game players. The world is a much faster place now
BB needs a faster, simpler, more dynamic and attractive version for beginners and younger players. These new generations have a lot of distractions, they won't bother with games where they can't evolve at a fast pace. The App won't help, but a better mobile responsive website is essential.
I can't think in a better solution than to have 2 versions of BB, because you will never please both sides of users. One for the slow pace old school fans. Another much simpler and faster for the newcomers. Sort of BBRookie, where you can experiment a simpler version of BBVet, and join us when you are ready to try a new challenge.
Two different approaches, two different markets, two different marketing strategies.
