I don't think this idea will fly in Arizona...

Don't ask what sort of Chunks they are, you probably don't want to know. Blowing Chunks since Season 4!

While I understand that this game can't simulate all aspects of real life basketball I still believe that trying to make it closer and closer to reality is one of the goals.

Like it or not giving citizenship to a foreigner after 5 years\seasons (example) of working\playing abroad it natural nowadays. It's also a human right (is this correct? sorry for my english).

In basketball every other country plays with one player born abroad. FIBA rules are restrict: only one player max per team and as long as the player didn't played for his original country.

Even the US played with one guy born outside their country, spain played with an american, even Russia is playing with one and the list goes on and on.

I agree that after a few seasons playing in one country a player could change nationality. My opinion.

While some people believe this is more realistic, I find that it is far from it especially when it is in a global environment.

While it might be fine for some more multicultural countries like the US or Australia to have guys with names from all over the world, can you imagine a sudden influxes of Jones, Williams, etc (I'm just giving English ones for an example but the same with Spanish and Italian as well) but with a Chinese flag next to their name??

Not too realistic if you ask me. In real life you will find that most players tend to be more closely associated with the country they grew up playing ball rather than the country they are playing ball currently.

We talk about national team players here - in my opinion such a rule would only benefit small countries as they could get hold of players who are to bad to play for their original country (I seriously doubt the top10-nations will start to convert Jamaicans and Kazhaks) but still top of the crop for some smaller countries.

Example: Ghana would love to get some players in the 30k+ salary range, whereas France/China/Italy maybe wouldnt even consider them to play in the U21.

I would like to see such a feature, but I think it is impossible to make it happen in this game.

So BC Jamaica team would get great Italian talent, train him in the league for a several season (lets say 5) and then he can get a Jamaican nationality.

Personally I dont have nothing against this thing, it could really help get NT games more interesting. However I dont think that small countries should have right to suck talents from bigger nations just like that. There has to be something like Italian team has the right to put that player into his roster, if he was fired from Jamaican NT season ago.

While the intentions are good, there is nothing to stop it from converting all other players that will become eligible.

Using your example, yes Ghana would get some more talent but whats stopping a Ghanaian team deciding to convert a 3k US player that has been on his roster for X number of seasons into a Ghanaian nationality. Certainly such a player would not even make the Ghanaian NT in either case.

Its just not practical to allow all players to be converted when they have been in a country X number of years. Also while there are good intentions for the small teams, you can not restrict the larger countries from not being allowed to do it.

maybe we could make player fully integrated into a nationality/city after x seasons, so that he still plays for his home NT only but is accepted in his second country because he could gives interviews without a translator etc.

It's not only about NT, but also about merchandise. Domestic players give much more for merchandise than foreigners. If player after 5 seasons in my team can have second nationality he can bring me additional income of merchandise even if he is playing for NT of his first nationality.
In general I like this idea.

This is a lousy idea in real life, I don't know why it would improve Buzzerbeater. No way...

I agree - bottom line is the change if implemented successfully would help create more parity at National Team level, it would maybe encourage clubs to buy and keep and phase out trading or consistently upgrading...

Remember the larger nations will always be able to do what the smaller ones can. (ie. Buy up foreign players etc) BUT the difference is they can only allocate the same number of NT roster spots.

Where this would help smaller nations is say I (Japanese team) buy a semi-decent US Trainee...the US NT managers would have to call him and play him at least once to prevent him from ever playing on the Japan team and with many other US trainees chances are if i train him well (but not that well :D) I can keep for 5 seasons, convert and then maybe he'll play for Japan or at least he'll have dual nationality (so I get rewarded with some more merch for the trade off of not trading him)

A US team buys a Japanese (or other smaller nation) trainee... chances are much higher that he will feature if trained reasonably well for the Japan NT so this would mean he could never be converted to a US NT player although again the US team has the benefit that in 5 seasons he too could be considered US by his inherited nationality for merchandise benefits.

Lousy idea in real life? F.e. how many players played in soccer WC for different country than they were borned?
How many american players in basketball play for different NT?
Maybe it looks like loose idea, but it's quite common.
