Read this (3944.1) first, then read this (144856.1) THEN search for information from Coach Parrot.

I agree with the idea of downgrading. I still use basic for everything but trainers at D4.

If you downgrade you could be earning around 100k per week next season. After this the only thing needed is good players

After downgrading I would try to find 2-3 18-19 year old prospects (all bigs or smalls) and work on training them during the next few years. If you upgrade a few rosters spots with 10k-15k salary players you could probably win out next year and promote. Depending upon how your money situation is after next season you may have a chance at upgrading a few more roster spots and making a run at promoting the year after that. After that 2nd year your trainees could be decent contributors if they are trained well.

All in all you have everything but good players so go that route. You could have a good few years ahead of you as long as you upgrade your rosters appropriately. You want to upgrade enough to win but not so much that you win every game by 70 points because then you are just wasting money.

Fellow coaches - thank you!

I gave everyone a "ball" because the hard earned advice shared has helped. I found some of the links helpful as well. I now understand why just cleaning out the dead weight and then training everyone wasn't getting be beyond a 2nd place finish in the V-Leagues.

Thanks!

You're paying $82000 on staff in D5 which is astronomical. I'm currently paying under $20000 in D2 because I just fired my trainer and spent most of the year paying about $28-35000. There's $50-60000 more in weekly profits right there. $700-900,000 for a season. That's a lot of cake.

The difference in the quality of doctors from level to level isn't enough to justify that kind of level/expense and it's especially bad when you're on the limited income of a D5 team. Plus you need to turn you advanced staff over much quicker. Look on the market and you can get them for between $12-14000 so fire their ass and get new ones ASAP. But I highly doubt you need to get a advanced PR guy in D5. Just win and you'll get fans. I think basic with a specialty will do just fine.

I don't mean to be pedantic, but it's really helpful to consider yourself a manager and not a coach. The finances of your team are vital, a lot more so than the tactics you play. If your roster is incredible, and your opponent's isn't, it won't matter what tactics you play.
