This sounds like a great study, as I too wonder if the SB skill is much more useful than the "Shots Blocked" stat reveals. It could be much more useful because a good shot blocker might alter a player's shots without actually blocking them or a good shot blocker might cause a player to pass up a shot he might otherwise take against a poor shot blocker.

I'll send you my info, but I'm curious if you'll try to adjust for the offensive opponents' abilities as well. For example, I play in D.V. (against bots no less), so very weak competition. I'd think even though my bigs don't have outstanding SB or ID, I'm still holding my opponents to a very low FG% because my opponents are awful. Do you think you'll be able to equalize for it because you'll have a large enough amount of data? My team's info might not be that useful, because my opponents are so weak, but I'd think there are a lot of teams with less drastic examples of opponents being outmatched, but where the data would still be skewed.

Just curious.

Thank you for your post.

Yes, I am splitting up the data by divisions. My goal is to not only find out how important SB really is, but also to see how much SB a player might really need in each division.

Makes sense. Hope you get a lot of data from users.

You wouldn't want bigs that are being trained, correct? Because their skills will be changing without you knowing, unless your expecting managers to be updating you every week.

No, I am not expecting bigs that are being trained in ID or SB. However, if you have a big that is being trained in IS then I will use him.

I'm considering doing a Study Of Study Of Shotblocking.

If anyone doing a Study of Shotblocking is interested in taking part in my study of study of shotblocking please send me a BBMail. I'll open a separate thread if there's enough interest. Thank you.

I'm not sure how pertinent it is to the study of the study of shotblocking, but there's a new training analysis thread that seems like could be studied as well and perhaps the two studies when studied in conjuction can reveal valuable insight.

Sadly, I am unable to help much more than that, but if you ever want to borrow my Cliff's notes on a Study of Shotblocking, and don't mind that some of it is highlighted and other pages have tooth marks because one of my dogs bit precisely as much as he could chew, it's yours.
