If I see 2 players with very similar skills and the same game shape but vastly different DMI then I'm going to favour the player with more DMI.
I would be careful about this, as although it is an extra piece of information which has some use, DMI is very sensitive to game shape sub levels so often times that is what will be making the difference. The only exception is if two players are at proficient game shape, which doesn't have sub levels.
