johnfox is saying we are all paying salaries before playoffs/relegations (except 8 seed). If you lost in Semis, u had only 1 game income even u were on top seed team, meanwhile relegation has 2 games guaranteed, so you get money for both games.

exaclty

on an economic point of view, if you get 4th place and lose semis you earn less money then arriving 5th and playing 2 playout matches

this has no sense

Ok, fair. I got your point from a (short term) pure economic point of view.
Still you 'lose' your money 'just' relative to the competition. Not weekly-economy-wise Looping at a two-week-span.

But even short term its better to lose in the semis (and therefor having a week wirhout salaries) than winning playdowns in 3 (and pay salaries)

Also it's still better than get relegated though... given a balanced competition: i'd never ever go for 5 instead of 4 by purpose, but maybe that's just my point if view.

AND this 'problem' has nothing to do with homecourt and the original post, since homecourt is a major advantage for winning in this game. And the 4th seed has no homecourt vs the first seed... but the 5th vs the 7th has...

In my eyes the quote "home teams forced to lose money during playoffs" is far from truth
