It seems that personal ratings are mostly based on a player's skills, not his game stats.

That's not true.

Defensive performance plays a big role in player ratings, and that generally isn't quantified in a boxscore.

A CT? Really?
Any two will do

Yeah, I guess so, but that's stupid :/
Player ratings shouldn't have to do anything with player current skills, but only with his performance on the pitch.

Player performance has everything to do with player skills. For this reason, player ratings and player skills are irreversibly intertwined. A player's performance reflects how he played against his opponent: I'd say a PF who scored 12 points but allowed the opposing PF to score twice that many has done well to get a 4.5 rating.

What puzzles me is that if we look at higher divisions and better players the stats would be mostly the same (which makes sense) but ratings are a lot higher. So defensive performance is solely responsible for the difference and skills don't contribute to player ratings whatsoever, correct?

Correct, it's whatever the performance was.

So? I mean, did you understood what I tried to say with that? You did? I mean, if I had to take a wild guess I'd say that you did 'cause otherwise you wouldn't correct me, right(?) but then again, if you did then why would you correct me?
You don't have to answer. That was just a rhetorical question :D

Can you, please, read my post once again?
I mean, of course that player performance has everything to do with player skills, I never denied that, BUT if an atrocious player score 20 points and grab 10 rebounds then his after game RATINGS should be reflection of that particular PERFORMANCE not his current level of SKILLS.
I mean, do you understand me now?

Thanks. I gather the opposing team players' performance doesn't influence them too, right?

And about team ratings - do they depend solely on your players' skills and your tactics or "performance" (some random factor) plays a role? Also, are they influenced by the opposing team's ratings and tactics?

And the last question (sorry there are so many of them), are attitude, home court advantage, more playing time (OTs) reflected in team ratings?

Indirectly, I guess you could say it does, since defense does matter.

And about team ratings - do they depend solely on your players' skills and your tactics or "performance" (some random factor) plays a role? Also, are they influenced by the opposing team's ratings and tactics?

I think those are independent of performance or the opposition.

And the last question (sorry there are so many of them), are attitude, home court advantage, more playing time (OTs) reflected in team ratings?

Your enthusiasm level is, but not if you TIE or CT. HCA is factored in, and it does seem that OT does raise the ratings.
