why points? why not the team who has won other team? (really confused)


It was decided that since there are only 2 games a year between teams that it would be more fair to do point differential.



in the interconferencial games there is just one game, and that wpuld be really unfair in the finals.

In addition in lower divisions changes of owners occur - so you still play the team once or twice per year but it could be totally different team and if you join lately during season you would inherit these head to head results and couldn't do much. Of course you would still inherit the points differential but you have better chance to influence it.
