maybe stamina was too low to play the whole match?

That's my first guess too. It happens to me too with my out of shape players. The coach pulls them at inopportune times late in the game, presumably because they're about to pass out.

The guy in question has inept stamina. I will try it once or twice more (with a control groups involving respectable and awful levels of stamina).

I seem to remember this happening to me a few times last season in blow out games. I would try to play guys the full 48 minutes by setting them at all three slots but they would sometimes only get 46 or 47 minutes.

Since before last season I didn't have much experience with blowouts, I just thought it was a normal "feature".

Now in my past game, my starting pg was fouled on a shot with 1:30 left in the game with the team already up by 20 (the other starters long having been put on the bench). The pg was removed from the game, replaced by the starting sf and then the pg proceeded to shoot a free throw. So he only gets 46.5 minutes and has to shoot his free throws from the bench (he missed).
