Defense helps a lot . But a hidden thing will allways sometimes arise.

I am pretty sure that it doesn't help a lot. Let's take alook at the Nt matches which finish with more then 30 points difference yesterday, i think this are good example because the winning team has normally overpovering competition:

(6281) - 17 Foul france are mainly average, 12 Fouls good especially if weak defending is a factor

(6253) - normal values for both teams

(6225) - low values for both teams, again more fouls from the team with way higher D, and superior offensiv skills

(6226) - a lot fouls from superior team, averlage till below average from the weak one

(6197) - average both

(6172) - the same

(6169) - high amount of fouls for the superior team

Those are interesting examples but I'm not sure they prove anything. We don't know the physicality of the players used in this game, for example. Also, fouls tend to happen more on inside play than anything else. So if a team is taking more inside shots, they'll tend to draw more fouls.

How about my NT player as an example? (2931215) He has averaged, over the course of his career, 1.5 PFs. Whenever he plays for the NT he always seems to take at least 4 PFs, though.

Here are what I consider possible contributors to fouls. Feel free to discuss:

-hidden physicality skill
-home court
-type of offense (inside play draws more fouls)
-inside d
-outside d (to a much lesser extent, I think)
-driving
-quality of the shot
-attitude (I'm not sure about this one, but have seen weird things happen in a TIE vs CT)

In NT i have seen this phenomean pretty often, i have starting to watch for it after seeing a "walk over" match of our NT where 8 players got fouled out. And i assume that this games was calculated like a match against lucky fans. In the end it wasn't that bad on real, but i tend to say that quality has no effect or that poor shooter gets more fouls against good defenders then the opposite way.

I have noticed recently that you hardly ever see a foul when a player makes a shot. I am wondering if that has something to do with your observation.

could be ;)

In this case the defense should work, it isn't dramatic the increase but maybe like in the sample above their the good teams fouls more often then the weak one, but in average not more then 3 fouls(which is less in comparision to the additional missed shots

Which would support my theory:

-better (inside) defense compared to the opponent's offense (+driving) leads to less fouls per shot
-fouls are MUCH more likely on missed shots

I forgot another thing that may play a role: experience.

but in the end, to avoid fouls it is easier, that you don't train defence but maybe you was avoiding succes with it too ;) The ID thing could be discussed too, my bad ass has great defence and better ID then my other guard but still manage to make for fouls per 30 minutes.

So the must relevant part is to buy "peaceful" guys.

I can't argue with that.
