i'm playing USA Elite tonight in the Cup -- the team just recently went bot -- but it brought back some memories.

i remember they had an unbelievably low team salary that produced a very stifling defense -- they used the 3-2 long before i realized how effective it could be. i forget the precise skill mix -- it was something like the guards had high ID and big men very high OD, something strange like that-- and they were never good enough to get past DII, but they had a wonderfully distinctive team.

i am afraid one result of the evolution of the rules is to rob us of these very distinctive teams. too bad.

Ohhhh, memories or nightmares?

USA Elite was not only successful, but they were one of the few teams that could get in your head too. Sometimes it was inexplicable the success they had. When their $17K big man is routinely destroying your $117k big, all you can do is throw your hands up...especially when you look back at his box scores, and see that same big played PG the week before with equal success.

In Season 16 I faced USA Elite in the Finals. We both finished 21-1 my only loss that season was a road loss (71-59) to them of course. I eeked out HCA through the Finals by just 23 points over USA Elite.

In Game 3, I was nursing a 6 point lead heading into the fourth, and my starting PG was hurt in the second quarter. USA Elite had already won 2 of 3 quarters and with 5 minutes left in the game we were tied at 71, ,with them holding the 4th quarter advantage as well, 10-4. At the very least USA Controlled the game to that point, but it felt like they were dominating the game.

Also, I followed them closely. so I was well aware of how many times they played super close games to the final minutes only to close out the game on a 10-0 run or 16-4 run, and steal it at the end. As it turns out I benefited from such fortune in that game closing the game on a 12-0 run and advancing to D2...but not much in BB more demoralizing than having a $200K payroll advantage over your opponent and feeling like you are the second best team on the court, and having no idea why!

Nice observations, guys. I didn't realize that he only recently quit the game (since I hadn't heard about him for several years). He always seemed to do very well with quite low salaries.

Items from dealing with my geriatric team:

-- one of my 33 year olds has had two pops this season; actually, two in three weeks.

-- last season, my MVP dropped three skill levels in one week in one skill. guess he thought he was James Harden and no longer cared to play OD. maybe he knew what he was doing -- they were the only drops he had all season.

Yea, his primary team building strategy was to have incredibly low JS on every player to reduce their salaries. Even his guards had a max of like awful JS. Seeing his player builds was kind of a catalyst for me and is probably a big reason I'm in the NBBA because I made it a point to prioritize efficient player builds and keep a low team salary.

Not that I've done anything up here yet but I'll get to 100 wins without having lost a relegation game so I guess that's something. I guess Coach Dean got back at me for winning that relegation series though! (93001995)

i think Wang Yourong is having one of the best seasons i have ever seen in BB -- first in the league in scoring and rebounds and fourth in assists. wow.
