Nellas inspiring at home win
Hernando Nellas, Season 3's top 4 scorer, and one of the leagues aging veteran, has been battling it out for a long time since his stay at the PPL. He has long been criticized as this season's out-of-season veteran. A star scorer who after 2 seasons, has run out of gas.
Compared to his scoring percentage of above .500 in Season 3 to this season's .350, his playing time decreased from 36 minutes per game, to 29 minutes, Nellas is clearly seen that his gas might be out sooner than later.
However, his home court performance of 20 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals, and two blocks, off the bench, says that he might not be out just yet.
The senior player dropped a total of 9 in 10 free throws in the first half, making him the player at the half, with 14.
However, the main man of the game is big man Simeon Tongson, who managed to seize a magnificent double-double performance, nabbing 11 points and 22 rebounds, along with 5 assists and a steal.
"The big boys really did it for us" says the team coach. "Our rebounds and inside defense aided our plays and to win the game against such a veteran team."
"The team is playing more and more on team offense than making their own plays, which is good as they really are becoming more unpredictable."
The only thing that is obvious to predict is the fact that Melencio Tanas, the team's two-time first scorer and Season 3 MVP, who only played 13 minutes, producing only 3 assists.
"He over-exerted himself during the scrimmage game last Thursday and because of the fatigue, he was pulled out early.
"We told him to relax and just enjoy the game but he exerted mo re effort, more than their championship game last season." says Cristobal Key, Polydozel trainer.
"He, and Herminio Coujuancgo were battling it out in the scrimmages, and [Tanas] managed to book out 40 points in that game."
Team Polydozel's next opponent is the Pampanga Dragons, another new promotee to the PPL. and the last new breeds of the league that team Polydozel will face. It is only Pampanga Dragons' 2nd time to face a new promoted team.
Team Polydozel and Pampanga Dragons are the only teams who are undefeated against new promoteds, with 2-0 and 1-0, respectively.
"They're a good team and they'll be hard to play against." says Pampanga Dragons high scorer Caesar Baldonado. "But our system is a hardworking defensive-type one and I'm sure that it will be a good battle coming this Tuesday."
