Why don't you just combine your data with Josef Ka to get there faster and help the community?

I have already been in contact with him about this study and will continue to be in touch with him and others as the need arises. As I have said before, I will not be sharing the data, although Josef is the one person I would share with if he asked (provided no one who sent me data had an issue with it).

It's not about doing one or the other. Tho different methods resulting in converging results would be most satisfying for everyone, dont you think? This is really a key project, more important than the simulation of ratings, in my view.

Edit: I can provide you data for a capped player in 1.5 seasons or so. Nothing for the moment.

But it only does an ok job of estimating allstar players. And even then, sometimes there are weird results. Of course, this is almost certainly because most of the data points come from allstar potential players, but that's another story. Also, weird players who capped with a lot of outside d or inside shot would really help.
.

How do the weird all-star players look like? What does their profiel suggest?

The player that I mentioned before will be allstar SF, that is either going to cap with OD or IS. (I wonder if he could cap as an SF with IS as it is neutral to salary).

I am not sure what you mean here. What are the different methods? How do these methods work in the absence of data?

I am looking forward to it.

My post above was not referring to weird players but rather weird results from the model (like no contribution from outside d). However, others pointed to some flaws in the model and the lack of data. So until I have a better data set and a better model, any findings are bound to be a bit weird (and highly inaccurate).

I was assuming without knowing that you would model capping in a different way. If you come to the same conclusions, that would be reassuring. Especially, if there is not a lot of data (or data with limited heterogeneity).

I'm trying work out whether my Star potential Guard has capped. He has 81 skills including an 11,12 & 13 among guard skills.

Would that suggest he has capped and the data be sent to you?
He's dropping out of the training rotation anyway, so let me know whether you think you can use the data.

First: thanks for getting in touch with me.

Now, in terms of your question, I really don't know. The only way I can for sure know if players have capped is by looking at their training history, age and height and making a guess (ie: 5 weeks inside shot training for a 21 year old, 7 foot player without a pop means he is capped).

I've got a star potential guard with 90 skills (didn't count stamina and free throws). Guard skills are 1x9, 2x11, 2x12, 1x13. In my eyes he has developed yet pretty much with the same speed than my perennial allstar potential guard who pretty much has the same skill set.

I have no real data, just my impression through what I remember about their training and development.
