I was just here to explain the "20k a week" thing.

Okay, and you know the "20k a week" thing is pie in the sky, right? [I could have used much stronger language.] One out of ten in an admittedly small sample was affordable (unless the bidding soared after I looked), one was bid grossly high and the rest were already above $20k before they were even bought.

You cannot say New York City is generally populated with giraffes just because once there was a giraffe in NYC. You cannot say a level four trainer generally costs $20k a week just because one may have.

I would still like to see a fair computation of the current situation.

And two of them, with salaries of $18,476 and $16,207 just failed to get an opening bid of $1,000. You could have bid on these guys days ago and gotten either one. No bidding war. No need to be online when the auction ends. And this really is not that uncommon. I normally dump my lvl 4 trainers when their salary hits $20k/wk and find another one with a starting salary below $13k, spending somewhere between $10k to to $100k to make the purchase. Been doing that for a long time.

When I search for trainers I am shown the following skill levels:
1. basic
2. competent
3. advanced
4. superior
5. exceptional
6. world-renowned

I begin to suspect that maybe I am not being shown something.

Here is tool, which calculates real cost of trainer (or PR manager / doctor) according to price and starting wage:

Mike, I was being conservative and giving the benefit of a reasonably cheap rate when I used the 20k number originally. In my experience the signing fee is around 70k-150k for an advanced trainer with a starting salary around 15k (including the severance pay to the old trainer) and a specialty, so that's what I consider to be the benchmark. We all know it can be more, but it is usually more for trainers who start at 12-13k salary.

Lower level trainers increase their salary noticeably slower than exceptional/world reknowned trainers. So if you buy a 90k a week World Reknowned for 1k fee his salary will balloon to 127k after 1 season and 180k (double) after 2 seasons. When you get rid of this guy you still have to pay him an extra salary as well, which is not going to be irrelevant.

Its a lot about perceptions.
I cost look at the all-in cost before replacement for about 2 seasons. So if I have to pay 1k for a 80k lvl 7, that would equal paying 2.7 million for a 15k lvl 4 trainer or about 1.7 million for a 40k lvl 6 trainer.

There are a lot more lvl 4 than lvl 5 trainers on the market. Lvl 6 and lvl 7 trainers are much rarer. I have no idea if the number of 'new' (i.e. not the fired ones who are put back into the staff market) trainers has changed over time but I think the rarity is what determines the price (and the specialty).

.post it on the forums hat l4s are enough and suddenly that price wil go up.

Knowledgeable players have been posting on the forums for years that an advanced (lvl 4) trainer is sufficient for training and generally the best bang for your buck. This is not new information being posted in this thread for the first time.
