Interesting. Thanks for the info.

Actually, the real reason is a bit more prosaic. In young leagues teams usually haven't done extensive scouting during the season. Plus, teams with computerized owners draft at random. That makes it possible for a really good player to slide all the way to the middle of the second round.

Well I joined midway through last season so I obviously could not do extensive scouting but I did have information on 17 or 18 players. Maybe I did not have information on the players that have MVP or superstar potential. Or maybe I read the information wrong.

But it does annoy me to see players going in the second round with better potential than the guy I got in the first round.

I'm just trying to find a way to narrow the gap IF the error was reading the information given and not that I did not have the information on the player.

Unfortunately, that's the way it works when you draft (mostly) blindly. I presume most of these 18 guys were only scouted once. That's really very little information for a pool of 48 players -- and a good reason for the skilled guys to end all over the place.

You can fix this with investing more in scouting next season.

It depends on a truckload of things: how you will do over the course of the season, the number of human controlled teams in the league, how much you can afford...

Well, in a bot team nearly anything can get you 1 very good and 1 good player. However, it is almost guaranteed that you will let even better players slip by. It all depends on what your priorities are

But be aware you could invest the maximum every week and still not get a single one of your picks. In my opinion, and I want to stress that, my opinion, it's a waste of money investing in scouting.

Why is that?

I think it's because if you save 30k a week. for 15 weeks you can spend 450k on a player of your choice in stead of 'risking' the draft.

You have to understand it is a lottery... do you choose lottery numbers then berate the fact the computer didnt choose the same ones as you?

Buying more lottery tickets doesnt give you the right to win the lottery...

In my opinion the average value of 3 drafts is probably worth $250k to each team. The best player may fetch 1.5mil (although there are some people trying to get much more than some 19yo Sensationally trained Allstars from last year - ha - different topic!) so if you invest 10k per week you are aiming to at least recover your money make a little profit and if you are LUCKY you can strike gold by selling on someone or keeping them to train yourself.

Keep it real... one bad draft doesnt mean the system is a waste.. just bring your expectations inline with reality - do you expect to draft three 18yo MVP just because you finish in the lower half of your table??
