What I would like to see is that every team generally tries to finish as high in the standings as possible.
Me too!! Whatever helps to make that possible, I support.

Probably the only way that can achieve this is by letting the last 2 teams of the conference relegate automatically while the 5th and 6th team go into the relegation playoffs. But this will cause an imbalance in number of relegated teams, so it's a stupid idea on my part lol.

I thing the answer is in the fan survey. It's probably tough to change without considerable thought, though.

Hi guys - As the person who opened this thread I would really like it if we'll stay on topic.

Thanks.

That's ok - I just got the feeling we are going toward that whole 5th place good or bad discussion once again...

I think you bring up a fair and relevant point. And I agree that there are no obvious solutions. The reshuffling of teams can be hard to implement and lead to teams wanting to change conferences, so maybe they should just use the promotion/relegation changes to improve the balance. Here's my idea:

Typically, on each league, 5 teams leave (1 champion, 2 relegated, 2 losers of relegation playoffs) and 5 new ones come in (1 relegated from above, 4 champions from below). I don't know if the division where the new teams end up is random or not, but one could have an algorithm to have the stronger teams end up on the weaker division. How you would measure how strong each team is can be tricky, but you can use the total salary as a rough estimate. Then you would distribute the new teams in a way such that the average total salary on both divisions is as close as possible.

This is just an idea, feel free to disagree and propose other ideas ;)

I think refreshing league conferences from season to season might be fun. no matter how they will do it. but either way it will be hard to implement and very complicated as there might be a lot of different situations...

I think the best solution, easiest to implement and won't effect users that much is just to change the league schedule as I wrote above.

Here it is, once again:

Change league schedule to play vs:

1. your group
2 second group
3. your group
4 second group
5. your group
6 second group
7. your group
8 second group
9. your group
10 second group
11. your group
12.second group
13. your group
14. second group
15. your group

Played vs all teams

16. second group
17. your group
18 second group
19. your group
20 second group
21. your group
22. second group

16 to 22 games will be according to schedule.
Schedule should change from season to season.

This change will lead to teams playing the same amount of league games vs each groups and still have some room of luck in schedule as we do in current structure...

Well, what is sure is that we reached the limit of the current league structure, especially with the tanking.

There isn't only the gap between both confs, there are also the schedules.
How many of us haven't already had a schedule where, every week, we played against the team that will have played just before against a team who doesn't compete ? This a total season changer.

What's more, schedules often repeat themselves between seasons (having 3 matches outside on a row, etc).

So anything that might break those things and create more randomness would be welcome
