PayPal is cheap, easy, seems fairly safe and is super useful for making all sorts of online payments. While I don't assume PayPal is 100% secure I would rather minimise my risks but just letting them have my details and letting them pay 20 randoms a year for me rather than giving 20 randons a year my credit card details and hoping that none of them ever have a leak. I have even made direct payments to people when buying stuff online, no fuss, close to instant and as I said little risk.

Ok the only issue I had with PayPal was a couple of years ago when I sold something (I think it was a virtual pet on WOW worth about $100) to a scammer who paid before I sent and then claimed I never sent it. Unless you have taken out Ebays seller protection they always side with the buyer. So Ebay told PayPal to refund the buyer which they did. This drove me insane with rage. I should never have sold to this person the account had scammer all over it, new account two trivial transactions in Russia also with new accounts. It took several emails and six months but I did eventually get all my money back.

omg...

1) paypal is much cheaper for point of sale than direct acquiring.
2) paypal provides merchants and customers enough security, while security in direct acquiring is depended on provider (not much diff from paypal) or developers - and it should be agreed by payment systems - that also costs money - and each payment system has it s own security reqs (Visa/MC/AMEX).
3) Acceptance of CC via internet is riskful for merchants - because lots of stolen(skimmed) CCs get monetized in it. And people who got fraud want their money back - merchants loose money and products/services. So merchs in internet want to get more protected using adress info to prevent chargebacks.

actually in australia, we are used to it, as most places only accept Mastercard or VISA. Amex is accepted at some places, (probably most places now) but you pay a higher surcharge.

anything else, forget it. sooooooo yer. but Australia is lame so yer :)

ok, they do not get ur money, who cares

I care about my security while i pay for my bb-supporter. And if i pay thru paypal - i'm ok. And if i'll have to pay thru "noname" banks interface or even thru bb-made interface i'm not ok with that, because confidencial of my CC data is more valuable for me than DoB or Address.

And also it is normal practice if bank-acquires support verifies personal data of cardholder in issuer bank.
