Howdy everyone! After barely surviving the Great 8 gauntlet I'm back in a season that will determine if I aim for playoffs with my current core or switch to rebuild mode as my starters approach 30 years old.

Welcome to the new teams and thanks to everyone who've been so active in the forums, I love the analysis the regulars have offered.

Good luck!

This league is more competitive than I thought
Training is always a pain
I might need to unload my vets soon

Has anyone discovered the secret to stopping your players from fouling so often? I have 3 players averaging over 4 fouls a game. The team is averaging 21.5 per game and my last opponent attempted 40 free throws. I will gladly trade my next 3rd round draft pick to anyone who has the answer.

The simple answer is don't buy foulers. You have to look at their track record...you also have to consider where that player has played....if you are a DIV team buying a player that was not a fouler in D2, you are probably pretty safe with him....but if you see a guy that you are interested in playing for a D3 team, and he's not major fouler, but gives cause for concern...it might be worse if you buy him and play him in a D2 league.

Some players have the "fouler" gene, some don't.

Total agreement with the fouling gene - it's like comparing Okafor and KAT in this coming draft. The only other thing I'd add is that playing players outside their natural position has been listed in the past as a reason for excessive fouling, so if you have a SF with great inside defense that you line up as a Center that could result in some mismatches that create more fouls. Hope that helps!

Well looks like its going to be another one of those seasons in the Big 8. Everyone jockeying to stay out of relegation. Probably have two teams with 11-11 records make the playoffs and 2 teams with 8-14 records battling in the relegation series. Crazy competitive.

Anyone have thoughts on how the season is going for their team so far now that everyone has played all their conference opponents once?

I'm a little surprised where my team is at this point....We have won a couple of more road games than I expected....that said, I expected to beat Barbaric Yawps on the road, and lose to Extra Crispy at home....both games went to OT (In the same week) but I lost the game i expected to win, and won the game i expected to lose.

My team is not deep enough....My 8th player is too weak for D2, and my 7th player is right on the line. I'm looking to improve, but I am not going to blow money....Based on my record, promotion is a possibility at this point, but my trainees are not really D2 ready, so they certainly won't be NBBA ready by next season....but it's tough to not go for it if it's within reach.

As Ragman's said the Big 8 is crazy deep from top to bottom. Although Great 8 is more spread out in the standings right now, there's a whole lot of talent and depth throughout.

I was noticing this week that the Big 8 seems to be the conference with the top offenses, and the Great 8 seems to have the better defenses. I was kind of thinking I should be in the Big 8 since my team seems to be one of the top 5 offenses in the league, but in tonight's game vs Milwaukee their great defense had us stuck at 53 points late in the 3rd quarter (so not sure about that anymore!). I have been really confused this year by my team....We seem to end up close to 100 most games, but we go through stretches where we go 2-4 minutes with no points, or 6 minutes with 3 or 4 points...and then we explode for 20 points in 8 minutes.

Tonight's game was a good example of that....We only scored a measly 16 points in both the 2nd and 3rd quarters....and we only had 12 points in the 1st 7 minutes of the 4th quarter....so at that point with just 5 minutes left in the game, we trailed 74-65 but then closed the game on a 17-0 run to win 82-74.

This game continues to surprise me!

I hate this game.

I'm a little surprised at how well you have done as well... Thought you were putting on the finishing touches this season?
There are several teams that scare me in our side ... ya just never know!

Pretty much....i didn't come in with plans to promote...but my team (despite being full of holes) is better than I anticipated. My goal coming in was to bank money, continue my trainee development and stay in the cup as long as possible. I am definitely banking a nice amount of money each week, and my trainees are looking really good, but have a ways to go, but my cup run ended way early.

I think my biggest surprise is that I have won as many games as I have with my B team. My A team is pretty solid, but my B team is definitely lacking....but we have managed some unexpected wins and that has led to where my team is right now in the standings.

I was especially proud of my team last night...we played a solid team with two players in the top 10 in scoring (a guard and a big, which makes them scarier with their balance), and leads the league in scoring....we had to go on the road for this game...and we never trailed, won all 4 quarters in the game, and won by 31 ....that was a pleasant surprise.

I was really hoping that Milwaukee would take care of business at home, but Congrats on a great road victory Stalzag! That was quite impressive! I have one more move to make....unless that move makes a major impact, it looks like this is your season to win and promote to the NBBA. As of now, I am going to try to get in your way, but your team looks like the clear #1 9 games into the season.
