And what was the idea(s) behind that feature ? Could you explain what was envisaged please ?

I'm afraid I cannot, since I wasn't the creator nor was ever a big fan of the feature.

So, why don't we get rid of it? Possibly another "empty" calculation, that can be removed to ease the servers workload.

I really doubt this feature will be missed.
