You directed that post to me but then you were not talking about my team (I'm not 16-6). I'm not the same person who originally posted. :-)

I checked your league standings and saw that you were 2nd, and then got mixed up.

18-3 would probably be good enough if you were in first place, so I'd expect both Sin Amor and Destroyers to promote, even if neither win the playoffs. But since the extra promotion takes into account not only record from place, I think you'll need to win the playoffs.

It's fairly easy to check, which I haven't, but if there are any bots, they're probably in relegating positions.

Just did a quick check and currently there are 4 bots in USA II.

2 of them are in the 8th spot and will auto-demote anyway. The other 2 are placed in 6th and 7th place. Depending on how they fare in the Relegation matches, they could demote from there as well.

If one of those 2 wins the relegation series, then you would promote in their place if you lose the playoffs, depending on whether another undefeated III team doesn't suffer an unexpected playoff lose.

I don't think that any one will promote from D.III without winning the playoff. As soon as teams go ownerless, their lineup gets reset, so they aren't too likely to win a relegation playoff. There is one team that may go bot, so maybe you have a chance there.

For D.III there could be about 28 bots promoting from D.IV, perhaps 4 that won't relegate from D.III, and 6 bots in D.II. So around 38 extra promotions from D.IV to D.III. This would include many conference winners - but not all.

Thanks for the answer. :-) I don't think I can win the playoffs and I don't want to promote until I can. I actually tried to throw my last game, lol (by playing TIE and my backups as starters)... I have this fear of totally getting stomped by Div 3 teams.

But our #1 team just became a bot. I have no idea how that is going to affect things.

Teams are given new owners beginning with the lowest numbered leagues in IV, so they should have a new owner within a day or two (teams become bots on Monday morning, but new teams are added through the week).

So the new owner probably won't win the playoffs, but may promote based on "his" regular season record. If Sin Amor does play any games before a new owner is assigned, they will have a reset lineup consisting of their 12 highest-salaried players, with the highest playing PG, and so on. They'll use the base offense and man-to-man.

A new owner will be able to participate in your draft. I'm not sure how BB handles this. They give new teams some scouting information, I think around a dozen, and I'd guess that they would just generate a fresh set in a case like this.

I check for FA that were released by teams that become ownerless, so I know teams that are bots or may become bots.

So I finished 20-2, should I assume I'm going up?

The bot cleanup is not an official part of the rules, but it has been done every season I've been here. Assuming that it follows the same method that has been used in the past, 20-2 and 1st place should be good enough.
