In the eventuality of the same team winning both competitions (as Abrantes Basket did in Portugal this season), the Cup runner-up would have the country's second spot in the B3.
why?
First of all, it is currently a standard practice in a number of European competitions.
Second, it gives the slot to the best positioned team in this tournament that hasn't already qualified through other means, while simultaneously guaranteeing that there is a representative from both competitions.
The bottom line is, if one teams get both the Championship and the Cup, then obviously no other team in this country has won anything. So unless you find it good to have 1 representative from countries like this, it's better to have the Cup runner-up in, rather than the league runner-up.
