Using the conference record to break ties would emphasize the division of leagues into two conferences. That separation is already done for scheduling, the all star game, and playoffs. Since what we are talking about is a ranking withinconferences, it is reasonable to include conference games as a tie-breaker.

The conference record is easy to visualize - see any newspaper that covers the NBA. Point differential is rather hard to to visualize, especially when dealing with 4 digit numbers. Point differential is of course useful as an ultimate tiebreaker due to the unlikelihood of teams ending up with the same point differential.

I am not advocating use of head-to-head, simply because it is more difficult to program, and because only two games are played against conference opponents, it may often not resolve ties.

Do those those Other Popular Manager Games use conferences?

Do we have blowout/mercy rules in BB? If so, then it seems pretty strange to make point differential that important. I would very much favor a head-to-head or division record or something like that as the first tie breaker.

I don't disagree with you all (I don't think point differential is the best way to do it), but I think there are probably a lot of other features I'd like to see implemented (in a new game like this) before changes/improvements in the tie breaker formula.

1. head to head comparison is used in nearly all important basketball leagues
(NBA, olympics, Euroleague, country leagues in europe ... open end list).
Point differental is typical for soccer and maybe some other sports, but definitly not in basketball.

2. i dont know why "other managers use point differential" is a reason to use point differential in BB. Does Bb try to be as good as the others or does BB try to be better than the others.

3. head to head comparison definitly needs some more lines to program it, but this should not be the reason not to implement it.
It is not that difficult, those are only a few more lines. I believe, even I could do it, even though i havent programmed in a long time.

Euroleague uses point difference... But in different way... They counting just those two teams both matches results, if those teams have the same win/loss differential... But if there is more then two teams with same win/loss differential, then they use all games point differential for decision what the team position is on standings.

this is head to head comparison

I dont believe this, please give me a link of the rules where it is stated or give me an example when it happened.

I know that very well... I don`t know any links and so on but just take a look to this
(http://www.euroleague.net/main/standings)

Why you think they count total points differential???

I`m basketball fan all my life as well as 80% other Lithuania population so I just know how it`s counting.

btw take a look in group C, at the 13 game day. U will find Rom and fenerbahce havin the same record and the team with the worse point differential ahead of the other team.

or another example from group C at the final results of the group fenerbahce is even ahead of two team wih the some record but better point differential...

There was an esplanation given quite awhile ago by the BBs about why it's PD and not head-to-head.

If I come across it I'll post it.
