One-Third Season Report : Esplanade BC & Pekanbaru Jaguars lead their respective Division after first seven games.
Big 8 - The Turnaround
#1 Esplanade BC
Season 18 of Big 8 sees a new powerhouse of their own, which is the Dark Horse Esplanade BC. EBC started the season with one-point loss 95-96 to Singapore Showstoppers, but did bounce very hard to back on track by winning their last 6 games, earning them a first spot at Big 8. EBC has soundly beaten those Big 8 opponent, with the most devastating is when destroying Sessioes Doers 94-72 and Shohoku Backers 105-75 when visiting both arena. The biggest difference maker behind EBC success is their new wingmen Dimos Tsemperlidis , who averaging 21ppg 6.9rpg and 5.4apg.
#2 Singapore Showstoppers
Last season Big 8 leader, Singapore Showstoppers now holding the 2nd spot with 5-2, still relying a lot on Noel Lima (14.9ppg 14.0rpg) , Pedro Pineda (15.7ppg, 11.9rpg) and Xiong Jiayun (15.3ppg). Started the season well, but were hurt by their latest defeat at home by Eric United 94-115.
#3 Eric United
Eric United, SGP B3 participant this season, still showing normal pace at early season with 4-3 record. Fans were dissapointed when they lost home games to Sessioes Doers 92-79, but EU bounced back on National TV games by defeating Singapore Showstoppers 115-94. This season of EU has paired up two superstars, brought in Turkeys NT Simavi Duyu (12.5ppg 7.8rpg) to combo up with Augusto Gomez (25.3ppg 5.4apg).
#4. Sessioes Doers
There's no significant changes on SD, as the team still trying to hold their position on the top 4 spot. But their latest home games narrow win against SaungHninPwint 95-94, could be a sign that SD will see more such games, or even could result more narrow defeats. Ricardo Paz led the team with 28.6ppg, Eike Balkhausen with stat-stuffed 16ppg 12rpg 3.3apg and 2.6bpg.
Bottom Four
Newcomer SingSing82 were even entering top 4 position before tied up with SD with lesser points differences, staying at fifth. Former strong teams Lycans BB and Shohoku Backers both ranked sixth and seventh, and another newcomer SaungHninPwint hold the last spot, but are making sounds on National Tournament.
