This does not help this game at all obviously. Seems like all the similar games are falling back due to lack of investment/adaption to current technological standards. We haven't seen any real innovation or substantial addition to the game in years. Heck, we can't even change the jerseys or paint our arena floor.
I agree.

Hate to break it to yall but falling user numbers has nothing to do with the realism of the game engine.

I'm not saying its 100% realistic but then neither are the 2k games, which run on next gen consoles and are developed with millions of dollars..

Realism really, really isn't the issue with people leaving though.

User numbers aren't really falling now (weren't)
If they fall soon it would be probably economic balance issues I guess

For the historical drop/lack of BB catching on. I would say perhaps its not the GE, but the lack of one ( a good one ) and a lack of tactic balances etc. that plays into other realism/counterintuitive issues with how teams are run, training, how the market works etc.

The engine is and even LI dominance is the least we have to worry about honestly.

Considering LI: if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Easy as that.

Lack of realism? GE is pretty good, start fixing it with adressing the issue that there are Players that have a pure 0 in a skill and for example won't hit a free throw for 30 straight seasons, or average 0 assists for their career. With this super slow training and the marginal usefulness of some skills, those are freaking annoyances that need to get wiped out. And for the love of god please spare me with "arguments" like "mimimi, you just need one training to make him shoot 20%"

Those GE-bugs that that happen every couple of games have been around for years and people have accepted the reality that those will stick around for another decade if only...

...the servers keep running.

What worries me most right now are the extremely long calculations that seem to become the new Standard - like rookies/draft being calculated between allstarbreak and offseason. Thats just a bad sign.

Server is slow as a snail on Monday morning recently. Why is that? Offseason processing?

Also those half-hearted attempts at fixing problems bother me a lot - just Show some balls and do it right once every while.

As it is now, there are no developers availiable and Marin - in my opinion - is only an admin tweaking some numbers here and there, continuing the good old: "we won't tell you, you have to find out, because it's fun that way policy." I accept that is probably the only thing he can do, with the time and money availiable.

I really don't know why I get so emotional, when it comes to that game, but seeing a great product being abandoned and as it seems the owners let it die on purpose, or at least accept that it might be gone pretty soon, makes me really angry.

Probably just because I am an oldschool gamer who does not find any entertainment in those new games that are flooding the market. I am not giving up the hope that we will see like 50k+ users again.

Unfortunately, user numbers are still falling.
I've been tracking World, US, and Utopia user numbers for the past six weeks, and it is interesting to watch the user base drop on Mondays and then slowly climb back up over the week to then drop again on Mondays.
Anyhow, in those six weeks, US is down 7.6%, World is -2.5%, and Utopia is flat.

You're a reasonable person Manon. The rants above were about the fact that there are a lot of things that are unrealistic. 18ft lay ups are also unrealistic as aber pointed out. Sure, I agree you can't blame any single problem on its own for the loss of users, however I think we're discussing about how to make the game last into the future and my opinion is that the devs should try to improve it, especially the parts that people complain about or nearly push people to ragequit while watching the viewer.

Personally, I'd rather have a game with a high user turnover but also a healthy number of users. Ultimately Trainerman is right in screaming about micronations, because a lot of the drive in these games is generated by both the sense of community and the challenge of prevailing over many other human managers. If you accept that the situation as it is today is good enough, then you're very much guaranteed to run the game into the ground in the long run.

I don't understand also the stubbornness of the owners about not involving the users in helping out back when there were more users and even today.

Would imagine some of the falling users is because it's been the NBA offseason? And the fact the rest of the world has fallen less is maybe because Eurobasket has been on. I imagine the users falling off are mostly newer teams not being replaced by other new teams (established teams not leaving can be seen in Utopia). If this theory is true, new sign ups will probably start going back up again soon...
