I would like to take this opportunity upang magpasalamat sa lahat ng bumoto at patuloy na sumusuporta sa atin upang mamuno sa ating koponan.

Asia Championship na namang muli this season. This time tayo na ang host country, salamat sa maganda nating run last season, albeit a first round exit. Sa ating ika-apat na sunod na season, bye week na naman tayo sa unang linggo natin. Paborito talaga tayo ng BB. Ang schedule natin para sa unang group stage ay ang sumusunod:

At dahil tayo ang host, lahat ng games natin ay sa Pilipinas magaganap kaya naman kapanapanabik itong season na ito. Mag-umpisa na rin tayo sa pagpili sa unang labindalawa para sa sumabak sa mga susunod na linggo.

Pilipinas opens the season with a win against Iran, 122-101

Pilipinas went on a shootout against Iran hitting 54.3% from the field against Iran's 50.6%. Benson Villarivera led the team in scoring with 27pts & 3asts. The rest of the team also chipped in with 7 players scoring in double digit. Jiffrey Sumalapao had himself a game with 12pts, 4rebs & 7asts while Fortunato Arcega tallied 11pts, 8rebs, 4asts & 3blks. Delfin Orais led the bench with 13pts & 7rebs.

Pilipinas kept New Zealand at bay, 134-101

A balanced team attack, 8 players in double figures, helped get the team their second win in the tournament. Led by Jiffrey Sumalapao with 21pts & 4asts. The team never looked back after taking the lead after a slow 1st quarter. Bigman duo, Augustus Moleno (16pts, 14rebs & 2asts) and Fortunato Arcega (13pts & 13rebs) managed to earn themselves a double-double. Jorge Shanks also had a double-double off the bench with 15pts & 10rebs in 18mins of play. Sixto Nical led the bench mob with 19pts, 7rebs & 4asts.

Next week, we will be going up against an undefeated Australian team, 3-0, after beating Japan, India and Kazakhstan in their last 3 matches. Looking forward to another great GS week.

Pilipinas holds off Australia, 104-92

Pilipinas' homecourt advantage prevailed over Australia's better enthusiasm and effort. The team was led by Jiffrey Sumalapao with 21pts, 3rebs & 3asts. All the starters scored in double figures except for Fortunato Arcega who put up a defensive masterclass (4pts, 16rebs, 4asts & 4blks) to keep Australia from getting too close. Off the bench, Sixto Nical led the way with 14pts & 2rebs.

Next week, Japan naman ang makakalaban natin. I'd say level naman ang enthusiasm natin sa kanila although 0-3 so far losing against Australia, New Zealand at 1-pt loss against Iran.
Hopefully mas maganda na ang GS natin sa susunod na tatlong linggo nang matapos natin yung round na undefeated.

A big 2nd quarter from the host helped cruise past Japan. Led by the triumvirate of Sixto Nical (32pts. 2rebs, 3asts & 2blks), Alan Adrian Marquese (17pts, 10rebs & 3asts) and Benson Villarivera (17pts & 2asts), hindi natin binigyan ng pagkakataon na makabalik ang kalaban throughout the game. Off the bench, the team was led by Pinong Demape with 24pts, 2rebs & 4asts. Jiffrey Sumalapao also scored in double figures with 13pts & 4asts. Ang twin towers naman nating sina Jerome Maluenda at Fortunato Arcega ay nag-combine with 10pts, 25rebs, 9asts & 3blks.

Next week, we will be hosting India naman who managed to get their first win today against Kazakhstan. They are currently 1-3 and will be looking to get their second win this season against us. Sa tamang GS, makakaya nating pigilan yan.

Pilipinas with the impeccable defense despite 2 GDP against India, 112-68

Despite the fact that India double guessed us, we still managed to beat them and hold them below 100pts, our 3rd consecutive time this season. The team was led by Sixto Nical with 25pts, 4rebs & 2asts off the bench. For the starters, Melecio Sidad put up 17pts, 4rebs & 4asts. Jorge Shanks had himself a double-double with 10pts, 11rebs & 3asts.

Last week na ng first round sa lunes, matinding bakbakan ang magaganap. Here's some scenarios na dapat tutukan.
Pool A
New Zealand to advance if they win or lose by less than 27 against Australia.
Kazakhstan (v Pilipinas), Japan (v India) and India (v Japan) needs to win and New Zealand to lose to have a chance at advancing.

Pool B
Singapore needs either Pakistan or South Korea to lose to advance.

Pool C
Hong Kong and Lebanon showdown for the top spot.
Thailand needs Indonesia to lose by at least 20 against Macau or Malaysia to lose by at least 39 against UAE to advance.

Sa lunes, we will be up against a Kazakhstan team looking for a glimpse of hope in reaching the next round. They've only managed to win against New Zealand, currently 4th, so far and will be looking for another one.

Pilipinas kicked Kazakhstan out of the tournament, 106-77

In a lopsided game na nag-crunch ang Kazakhstan, nasayang ang lahat yan dahil sa homecourt advantage natin at maling GDP nila. The team was led by Benson Villarivera off the bench with an efficient 18pts, 4rebs & 2asts in just 19mins. 4 starters put up double digits points with the trio of Pinong Demape (16pts & 2rebs), Jiffrey Sumalapao (14pts, 2rebs & 2asts) and Melecio Sidad (13pts, 2rebs, 4asts & 6fls). Augustus Moleno had himself a 12-12 double-double and 3blks while Fortunato Arcega had 6pts, 19rebs & 5asts.

Sa lunes na ang simula ng susunod na group stage at talaga namang matindi ang grupo natin ngayon. Sa susunod na linggo ay welcome na challenge against Taiwan nang ma-test natin agad ang koponan laban sa isa sa mga powerhouse ng Asya. Ang schedule natin sa susunod na limang linggo ay:

In a low scoring affair against one of the powerhouse in Asia, naghahabol tayo sa kanila all throughout the game ngunit hindi tayo pinalad manalo sa ating home soil. Both teams played with the same effort pero may homecourt advantage tayo. The team was led by Jiffrey Sumalapao with 18pts & 5asts. Benson Villarivera contributed 16pts & 5rebs while Fortunato Arcega tallied a 10-10 double-double with 3asts & 4 blks.

The team was firing in all cylinders while keeping the kiwis from getting on their groove. Led by Benson Villarivera (19pts & 5rebs), 7 players managed to score in double figures. Ericson Regidor led the bench mob with 17pts, 3rebs & 5asts.

We managed to overcome a slow start against Indonesia and they were withing striking distance to make a comeback considering more effort din sila. Luckily, we managed to stave them off shut them down in the 4th quarter. 4 starters scored in double figures with Jiffrey Sumalapao (24pts, 4rebs, 8asts, 2stls & 2blks) and Augustus Moleno (16pts, 15rebs, 2asts & 2blks) leading the team throughout the game.

Next week, we will be up against another Asian powerhouse in Hong Kong. Hopefully our GS next week are better para naman may tsansa tayong manalo laban sa kanila.

Pilipinas bows out of the medal race, lose to Hong Kong, 91-60

In a game where we had more effort and homecourt advantage, di pa rin natinag ang Hong Kong at napanatili nila ang lamang nila sa buong laro. Si Melecio Sidad (17pts, 6rebs, 2asts) at Jiffrey Sumalapao (10pts, 3asts) ang mga naka-double digit na puntos. Wala tayong panama sa HK as we lose by 31pts.

Next week na ang last game natin, against Singapore, at tapos na ang ating kampanya this season.
