The Air Balls stave off a fierce comeback attempt by the worcesterwartown to win 109-85 in front of 6,000 rabid fans and a live TV broadcast!
Air Balls’ new acquisition rookie Luis Belmonte played a lights-out game on both ends of the floor. Belmonte’s 9 steals outnumbered the entire opposing team, complementing his 25 point, 22 rebound outing.
Star opposing center Stéphane Jaillet got his fourth personal foul before halftime, limiting him on defense as the Air Balls attacked him relentlessly.
Still, the Air Balls looked at times discombobulated, opening up a 20-point lead early before several times allowing runs that made the game competitive. Rookie Tyler Wallis admitted as much in the post-game interview, saying “I took a lot of bad shots out there and was skating around on defense. I’ve got to be better about adapting my game once their gameplan changes.”
The Air Balls improve to 4-0 and will look to advance in the USA Cup next Thursday.
