Rebels Win Championship

The Hendersonville Rebels defeated the Andersonville Alligators tonight 115-99 to sweep the two game Championship series. With 9500 rabid fans at Big Lake Fieldhouse cheering them on, the Rebels were able to overcome a slow start and finish with the win. After narrowly winning last Tuesday night at Andersonville, Companys turned on the jets hitting consecutive three pointers to tie the game and overcome their last last deficit of the season. Franchise center James The Proffit was also instrumental in the win, with a double double, but nobody on the court could match Companys who finished with an amazing Triple Double in the in the Finals. Companys would finish the game with 29 points, 10 assists, and 11 rebounds. Leyzek Wolyneic was also big finishing with 26 points. All of the Rebels chipped in at key points, especially youngsters Des Bunn and Moshe Skutt who finished 5-6 from the floor and added two free throws.
After losing Tuesday at home the Alligators came out playing run and gun instead of their normal inside game, and in the end their guards could not match up against the fearsome foursome of the Rebel guards with Migowski, Wolyniek, Bunn and Rivera.
The win cemented the greatest season in Rebels franchise history as the won the crown for their second time, but in a far tougher league than the first championship. The win also means the Rebels will be heading back to Div III. where they spend two seasons before being relegated last time. But coach Johnson thinks this time they are much better positioned for to be a competitive force than they were several years ago after winning the much weaker Div IV.45.
The Rebels go into the draft excited about finding out what Div III league they will wind up in and with expectations of doing more than not being relegated this time. Ranked 245 in the USA, the Rebels expect to compete for championships at the Div III level this time.
