Possum Chasers vs. Gisborne Gladiators 100 - 84 (36141609)

Ok so in the first game of the South Season for the Gladiators and Possums sees a rematch of the Possums 96-82 win last time they played. For two predominantly inside teams we didn’t see any ‘Look Inside’ or ‘2-3 zone’ tactics which is surprising. The Possums went in with the tactical advantage playing their 3-2 zone on the Gladiators run and gun offence. Unfortunately for the Possum’s the injury to SF Carl Halliday early in the first. The injury looked to give the Gladiators the advantage taking a 25-28 lead into the 2nd quarter. A strong fightback from Luca Cieckan with 12 points and 7 rebounds saw his team wrestle back the lead, 45-42.

The third quarter is where the Possums won this matchup winning it 32-19 behind. Reigning South MVP Trinh Trinh took control in the second half with a game high points and rebounds to give his rising Possum Chasers team their first win.

3 votes – Possum Chasers – Trinh Trinh – 26 points 17 rebounds

TT continues to take his game to a new level with game high points and rebounds. To cap off his offensive night he shot an incredible 13-16 field goals which put the Gladiators to rest. Could he be the ‘Ky Smeltz’ of the South??

2 votes – Possum Chasers – Luca Cieckan – 21 points 15 rebounds

Luca played second fiddle to TT again, which he may have to console himself to doing for the rest of his Possum Chasers career. Luca was also extremely efficient on the offensive end scoring 9-13 field goals along with 3-3 from the line.

1 vote – Gisborne Gladiators – Gniewosz Sznajder – 20 points 2 blocks 2 steals

Snotman had a team high 20 points from 7-19 shooting. The thing that sets him apart from his teammate Zakharov is that when he was on the court the Gladiators were only -1, keeping his team right in the hunt along with keeping his opponent to 3-14 gets snotman a vote.

All-Sorts vs. Mangoloids 119 - 84 (36141612)

This game saw the young blood of the Mangoloids take on the new boys All-sorts. Div II bound Mango’s took the risk on playing full court press on the outside shooting All-sorts. One thing is for sure, the All-sorts arrived with a bang in the South having the hapless Mango’s in absolute liquorice all-sorts throughout the match. Jumping away to a 11 point lead after the first was only the beginning of the onslaught. At the half All-sorts SG Tuomas Uusimäki led the game with 21 points, with his team leading 55-41.

Mangoloids dropped to 19 points behind All-sorts by the end of the 3rd. The last was a bit of stat padding for the All-sorts players despatching of the Mango’s by 35 points. They could become quite a formidable side in the South.

3 votes – All-Sorts - Tuomas Uusimäki – 38 points 6 assists

The Finn had a day out in this one, knocking down 15-26 shots and 6-13 of them were from 3pt land. We can’t forget about how Tuomas kept McCaskie to 2-16 shooting. Rounding his night out with 6 assists, with performances like these he may be one to watch for the MVP race.

2 votes – All-Sorts - Mamerto Méndez – 26 points 8 assists

Mendez was extremely handy for his team shooting 52% for his 26 points. Throwing 8 assists aswell earns him his first 2 Fishbowl MVP votes.

1 vote – All-Sorts - Duilio Pasquino – 15 points 24 rebounds 4 blocks

Pasquino had a game high 24 rebounds, to go along with his 50% shooting. The only blemish on his night being a foul out.

Mad Rangas vs. Eggplantpopolopolous 129 - 144 (36141608)

Eggplant was a strong favourite against the debutant Mad Rangas. The Rangas were looking to make an impression in the league for his Guppy team. It was always going to be a high scoring match due to the Eggplant full court press. As expected we saw a high scoring first quarter with the Eggplants unable to shrug off the Rangas leading 33-38 at the end of the first. Needless to say the game was over at the half with a 45 point second quarter for the Eggplants. With very little D being played in this game the halftime score was a massive 62-83. Nicola Pisanu and Albanos Timpani combined for 54 of their teams points with 27 a piece. The Great Wall of Australia, Gabriel Wall was holding his team up with 14 points and 9 rebounds at the half.

Eggplant's had their 3rd 30+ quarter for the game in the 3rd quarter as they extended the lead to 26 points. With the game done and dusted the Rangas pulled it back to 15 points, however it was not the introduction to the Fishbowl they would have hoped for. Could be a very hard slog for the Rangas this season.

3 votes - Eggplantpopolopolous - Nicola Pisanu - 36 points 6 assists

There wasn't a whole lot between 'pissonyou' and Timpani, but Nicola gets the 3 with his 14 - 30 shooting for his mountain of points. He managed to find his teammates for 6 assists aswell. The thing that set him apart from his fellow guard was that he played clean on the defensive end.

2 votes - Eggplantpopolopolous - Albanos Timpani - 39 points

Timpani was right up there with the performance of Pisanu dropping 14-26 and along with 7-8 at the line. Timpani possibly would have got the 3 if he hadn't fouled out in 36.

1 vote - Mad Rangas - Gabriel Wall - 24 points 18 rebounds 5 assists 3 blocks

The great Wall went berserk for the Mad Rangas with 9-15 shooting for his 24 points along with the game high 18 rebounds. G-Wall will be a star of the future that much is guaranteed.

Rampaging Marmots vs. Home Axis 86 - 107 (36141610)

Off their Fishbowl South win last season, Home Axis went into this one looking for another div II scalp to add to their trophy cabinet. They had a good start as they got away to a 19-26 lead on the back of their bigs Gartmayer and Manzanera with 8 and 7 points respectively while Dan Gardner had 11 for the Marmots. A second quarter injury to starting Home Axis guard Olgierd Radon, allowed the Marmots to climb back to a 3 point deficit at the half. Gartmayer and Manzanera continued to head the Home Axis charge with 14 points a piece.

The third quarter was surprising as Home Axis lost a second player due to injury. Gartmayer left the game after 28 minutes with a double double. But seeing their fallen comrades spurred on the remaining Axis players, surging to a 15 point lead with a quarter to go. In the 4th Axis consolidated on their lead to take the 21 point win and continue their streak.

3 votes - Home Axis - Melchor Manzanera - 34 points 19 rebounds 4 steals

'Manny' was on par with his teammate Gartmayer before the injury to his teammate. 'Manny' had a stellar night in the lights by himself shooting 62% for his 34 points and being the only player to rebound the ball over 10 times.

2 votes - Rampaging Marmots - Sam Clune - 29 points 9 rebounds 3 blocks

Clune was the best Marmot on the night with a team high 29 points of 46% shooting. At small forward he also outscored his opposing play by 12.

1 vote - Home Axis - Paco Garrido - 18 points

Paco played a nice all-round game dropping 18 points but also grabbing 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Paco also did well to keep the dangerous Barry O'Daire under control

TEAM LORDY vs. Whompas Donkeys 99 - 83 (36141607)

Lordy went in as the favourites against the lower-leagued Donkeys. Lordy whopped some ass in the first quarter as they flew away to a 28-11 lead. Ross Underwood had 14 for Lordy, although he had taken 14 first quarter shots. The Donkeys had an even bigger concern that being 17 down... Dewey Bowers their dynamo scoring guard was in foul trouble with 4 fouls. Donkeys fought back in the second taking back 2 of their 17 point deficit. Whether they could pull back Lordy without Bowers who fouled out in 17 minutes was to be answered in the second half.

Another big quarter had this game wrapped up at 3 qtr time. They led by 27 thanks to Underwood's 32 points. Donkeys got some respectability into the scores winning the last. But a 16 point Team Lordy win is a great start of their Fishbowl career.

3 votes - TEAM LORDY - Ross Underwood - 32 points 7 assists

Underwood had a good night with a game high 32 points in 36 minutes. He also dished out 7 dimes to go along with his bag of points. Underwood caused havoc for the defense, going at Bowers at every opportunity causing him to foul out in 17 minutes.

2 votes - Whompas Donkeys - Ignacio Santana - 23 points 14 rebounds 6 assists

Santana is used to shredding some sweet rifts, but in this game he was shredding his way to 2 votes with a very handy double double, and 6 assists to add to his night. With 9-15 shooting the 2 votes is well deserved.

1 vote - TEAM LORDY - Wilhelm Reichensperger - 14 points 3 rebounds 6 assists 4 steals

The German had an all-round game with 50% shooting 6 assists and 4 classy takeaways in a game that saw his side win and himself take his first ever MVP votes.

Yarra Park Bears vs. Beasts Red 117 - 90 (36141611)

The Yarra Park Bears were a new addition to the Sharks lineup this season, and they would open their campaign against Kevin's Beasts Red. Beasts should show alot more promise this season, matching up against teams alot closer to their caliber. The Bears opened up a 31-20 lead in the first off some nice play by Ignacio Carlos Napolitano who had 10 1st quarter points. Beasts showed some ferocity in the second clawing their way back to only an 8 point deficit at the half. Jacek Sudzinski lead the Beasts with 15 points, 3 assists and 2 steals. Not to be outdone Cyrus Mendez also had 10 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists for the beasts. The Bears were headed by Francesc Gomez with 15 points, 4 assists and 3-6 from downtown.

Yarra Park Bears surged again in the third to take a 15 point lead into the last. One would think it would be a game-winning lead for the Bears in their first Fishbowl match. The well-rounded Bears lineup was benefiting from five 10+ point players at 3qtr time. In a 35 point last quarter for the Bears they closed this one out comfortably. Beasts will hope that they aren't all this difficult this season or there may be feelings of deja vu.

3 votes - Yarra Park Bears - Francesc Gómez - 21 points 7 assists 2 steals

Gomez sat out most of the last quarter so this is what a 3 quarter performance looks like. He lead the team for the most part with a team high 21 points in the end from 50% shooting. Also handing out 7 assists led his team to victory.

2 votes - Yarra Park Bears - Kazimierz Reda - 17 points 19 rebounds 4 assists 2 blocks

'Redder' had a great night with a 17-19 double double off 80% shooting. Could be in the votes regularly.

1 vote - Beasts Red - Jacek Sudzinski - 32 points 5 assists 2 steals

Jacek was great in this game for the Beasts and their best player on the court despite only playing 39 minutes unlike some others who played 48. Jacek shot 56% from the field for his points and had half of his teams steals. Without Jacek this could have been a 40+ point loss

ROUND 2

Yarra Park Bears vs. Gisborne Gladiators 130 - 99 (36141616)

Well this encounter has seen the Bears move to the top of the table and also drop the gladiators right to the bottom early in the new season.
With the Bears opting to go with the run and gun offence, they managed to pile on a massive 42pts - 25 first term which basically decided the game. The guards were having a great time running the court and dropping pts all game, also running a muck in defence with steals galore.

3 votes: Matej Kropácek

Scored at will in his 30mins on court 32pts and chipped in with a lazy 7 steals. Downed 6-14 from beyond the arc.

2 votes: Emílio Diniz Jr

Put in 28pts in only 23mins also had 3 blocks and 4 steals not a bad cameo from the Brazilian.

1 vote: António Terroso

Scored 28 pts for the gladiators and reeled in 16 boards. hit 13-21 in a fairly one sided affair but could have been alot worse with this man. Also I believe he is for sale so feel free to check big Antonio out.

Rampaging Marmots vs. Eggplantpopolopolous 108 - 89 (36141615)

Another game with yet again another comfortable margin. The rampaging ones opened up a break in the 2nd to lead by 14pts at the break and comfortably cruised home from there. The team hitting 43-80 and shooting very well from the line they were able take the cake.
The lack of outside defence was the big difference allowing the Marmots good looks at the basket.

3 votes Barry Ó Daire The Irishman scored a game high 35pts and dished off 8 assists to ensure a best on court effort.

2 votes Sam Clune Dropped in 24pts with 7 assists and 7 boards a good all round game to secure the 2 votes.

1 vote Thomas Rice All the votes for the Marmots, couldn't sneak any Eggplants in. The big 120k C scored well and pulled in 15 boards. There may of been a few guys looking at the one vote but with the marmots dominating the game i had to go with the big Rice man.

All-Sorts vs. Home Axis 131 - 121 (36141617)

I would have to say that this game was Match of the round, a high scoring fast tempo game. Only a couple of points each way every break and level at the last. The All Sorts took the last by 10 to finish the stronger team and take the W.
There was plenty of good performances on the court and it was a tough game to give the votes.

3 votes Antonio Pizzolato All Sorts

The Pizzo man had the lot, game high 33pts 10 ass, no turn overs and shot well from the line in a high fouling game.

2 votes Melchor Manzanera Axis

Good game inside cleaned the glass better then windex. 21 boards 32 pts and 13-17 from the line.

1 vote Duilio Pasquino All Sorts

Another big man, no foul trouble and 25pts zero turn overs and19 boards.

Possum Chasers vs. Whompas Donkeys 109 - 85 (36141614)

The game was done with the tactics chosen. The Ring tailed ones picked the right D and as always dumped it inside. Not too much between the teams at half time, but with the Donkeys guards shooting at a ring obviously non regulation size they were no match for their opponents in the second half.

3 votes Carl Halliday Chasers

the man with the toupee score points, claimed rebounds and defended well. Not even a foul to his name.

2 votes Luca Cieckan Chasers

" I don't foul I score" well that was before he defended Iggy, but Luca got it done. Takes the 2 in front of TT as he shot very well scored 24pts and claimed 12 boards. Although he took an early rest he got the job done when it counted.

Trinh Trinh Chasers

Another Possum another vote, no Donkey in the votes as they were rubbish. TT scored 24pts had 5 assist but only the 10 boards for him. Was close to 2 votes but missed out. I am sure he will poll many more this season.
