Under what logic does strictly following a depth chart mean subbing the starting SF at C? And then keeping them in for 3 whole minutes when the starting C hasn't fouled out or been injured?

I've had this problems a few times (including twice this week!)

(311286.1)

Both times this week it was while I had a big lead so probably 'garbage time' but as detailed on my forum post I've had it happen when another one of my players was due to sub out but ended up shooting free throws so it subbed my trainee out instead. I thought in this situation the player subbing in for the free throw shooter would have to wait until the next stoppage to sub in?

Try setting your trainee as Backup and Reserve but keep the starter blank. Seems to work better with substitutions than also setting them as a starter.

Just make sure you only have 9 active players (or 8 if you're blanking two starter positions) so the coach doesn't have extra players to move around.

But once again the virtual coach is not understanding what words mean. I told them time and time again to strictly follow depth chart, if I actually wanted them to make decisions based on fatigue I would've said coach picks from depth chart. And yet strictly follow apparently means coach picks anyway? Speaking of, I just lost another 4 minutes to the same stupidity this week;

Your PG and PF are playing 48 minutes ... so how did you set the lineup?

This is what has been recommended here before:
PG1 - PG2 - PG2
SG1 - SG2 - SG2
SF1 - SF2 - SF2
PF1 - PF2 - PF2
blank - Trainee1 - Trainee1

PG1 - PG1 - PG1
SG1 - SG2 - SG2
SF1 - SF2 - SF2
PF1- PF1 - PF1
C1 - C1 - C1 (trainee)

In both cases, SF1 randomly subs in for C1. And the fact that it's garbage time in my favour should if anything discourage the coach from doing anything I haven't told them to do, since there's no need to put a better and/or fresher team out there in search of a result.

Did you try:

PG1 - PG1 - PG1
SG1 - SG2 - SG2
SF1 - SF2 - SF2
PF1- PF1 - PF1
blank - C1 - C1 (trainee)

?

I'll try it next time but if that actually 'works' then it's an even bigger bug than I first thought. Blanking a starting position is in effect letting the coach choose who to play there, so if giving the coach more room to decide actually results in them making less decisions, that's in itself a problem with the code.

Yes ... but it is like it is ;-)

Pay attention, this does not work in WOs. Leaving the starting-spot blank open will result in loss of 36 training minutes.
