In Line with the Christmas Season, the Third PPL Games Features Blowouts

Not counting the close game between Another Round and remedial kings, the third games in PPL ended with lopsided victories, where most teams won by double digits. Pampanga Dragons and Another Round become the only undefeated teams in their conference, foreshadowing a possible matchup in this season's finals. Newly promoted Dahlia Mavericks and Team Polydozel on the other hand has yet to score a win.

Celestial Wrath bounce back with a 102-87 point win over palengke brawlers
Celestial Wrath quickly took advantage of the decision of palengke brawlers to give their youngsters more playing time. With a balanced attack, they took a 19 point lead by halftime. palengke brawlers would later trim down the lead late in the 3rd quarter, but they cannot stop Liu Junliang, who had a perfect 6-6 fg, with two threes in the second half.

Lonely Hearts Club, now happier with a 17 point drubbing on WPS Sentinels
After two low scoring quarters, it seems that both teams are in for a long night. While WPS Sentinels maintain their scoring output, Lonely Hearts Club went on fire shooting 51% in the last two periods compared to 26% before halftime. This, with a 56-34 differential in the second half led to a 82-65 victory for Lonely Hearts Club.

Team Polydozel holds MVP Rizalino Ortigas to 1 point but loses 107-93
From tipoff, twin towers Mateja Catic and Artemio Arca were determined to hold off Ortigas as he was one of the key players for Jungle Bolo .45. There were able to do it successfully, but at the cost of letting the outside shooters of Jungle Bolo .45 to hit open shot after open shot. Perry Jabonete led the way stuffing the box score with 33 points including 3 shots from downtown, 16 rebounds, 8 assists, 3 steals and 6 blocks.

Dahila Mavericks struggle again in the final period, losing 95-86 to Jam All Star

Pampanga Dragons spoil Lui Tze Ee’s big night with a convincing victory over Manila Bombers
After a tight first quarter, Pampanga Dragons were able to take over the game as Julius Mamicpic continued hitting tough shots scoring 20 points by the end of the first period. Even though Lui Tze Ee answered the challenged by scoring 23 points within the same time frame, he got little help from his teammates. On the other hand, even though Mamicpic was held to 2 points in the second half, the balanced scoring of the team was able to extend the lead and give the Dragons a 92-79 win over the Bombers.

Another Round squeezes out another win, this time against remedial kings
With three wins by an average of 3.67 points, Another Round demonstrates their ability during clutch time. At halftime, it seemed that remedial kings will take the game as Charlie Pelesco was scoring effortlessly while Another Round star Fatih Behnane struggled with his shot, drawing fouls to earn his points. However, Another Round started strong in the third, erasing the big lead that remedial kings had built. The game was close until the end, After holding a 3 point lead late in the 4th, Loh Leong Tong was able to hit a three with 22 seconds left to tie the game. But José Victor Irachet answered with a shot over Mi Minfang with a second remaining. Fatih Behnane extinguished any hope of tying the game by guarding Daniel Rivera in his final attempt.

memongs win despite losing Sergijus Dmitrakovas
During the first three quarters, both team exchanged buckets without any of them being able to pull away. But during the start of the fourth quarter, holding a small lead, Ahmad Abu-Hasan was called for a flagrant foul injuring starting point guard Sergijus Dmitrakovas. Despite the injury, the rest of the team were able to rally and extend the lead, breaking open a close game en route to a 21 point victory.

Lonely Hearts Club looks to add another gold trophy this season

After acquiring their fifth championship in franchise history, Sgt Pepper, the GM of the Lonely Hearts Club said that they don't plan to be pushovers in top league in the Philippines.

"The last time we were here, we competed under a different name and due to financial constraints, we were forced to rebuild. As a result, we were manhandled during the season we were here. I am guaranteeing that this season wouldn't be the same. We will do what we think is best in our pursuit of the missing trophies in our case."

Armed with financial stability, the team upgraded from championship core members Mellar, Payton, Shabkhiz and Alves to a core headed by Pilipinas guard Pete Montallana and Canadian big man Pierre-Charles Jutras. Rounding out the new acquisitions were Mustafa Ekin and Fabien Ville.

"We felt like the roster lacked talent in facing the best teams in the country. We're sad to see our old core go but this was necessary in order to compete."

The season has just started and they are sitting at 1-2 but Sgt Pepper emphasized that they could have easily gone 2-1 or even 3-0 but he is not panicking nor is he slacking either.

"We felt like we could have won our past games but there are times like that. Close games that don't count your way are normal but if we continue this trend of losing, expect some changes to occur. Having just been recently promoted, it comes across as a very bold statement but I really think we have a chance at contending and I would not let that opportunity just pass by."

Another forced loss by the Tambays, dumped by the juguars 109-74

The Facts: Diego Ubríaco's third straight double-double was just enough for the juguars to crush the effort of the starting benches of the PRO Tambays.

Ubríaco posted murderous numbers of 31 points while grabbing 15 big rebounds to carry the juguars to a 109-74 victory over the PRO Tambays who limited their starter's minutes. Juan Carlos de la Paz added 23 points while their beast center Roberto Puccio grabbed 26 rebounds and also dishing 6 assists.

Enrique Villaciergo led the Tambays in scoring with a season-high 19 points while the sniping star Fong Kong Chian had his season-low 15 points but playing for only 11 minutes.

Quotable: "It was a clear win for us. I expected that the Tambays would not start their starters and I took advantage on it by putting more effort.
------ juguars manager Julito Gupita

The Stat: After a triumphant game vs Cebu Lakers, the Tambays decided not to start their best players since due to tournament commitments. The "starting bench" were only 21/63, such expected for an opponent that puts more effort.

Turning Point: The juguars led the Tambays 24-13 at 1st quarter and never looked back. Despite of the big lead, they are still letting their starters play.

Quotable II: "I never expected the performance of my "starting bench". I mean they were doing fine last game vs the Lakers but what happened? I'm gonna send em back to their mother's womb if that happens again."
------ PRO Tambays coach Patrick Juanico

Hot: The juguars lit it up anywhere on the court, hitting 21/43 FG% at 1st half and continue their streaks by increasing their pace at the 2nd with 23/50 FG%. Their 3 point percentage were also good, with 12/18 shots from the long distance.

Not: Nikos Ntavelis continues his slump with the Tambays. After having a 33.5ppg in his former team, he was struggling with the Tambays only averaging 5.5ppg and an embarassing FG% of 18.5%.

UP NEXT: After the prepared cup game, the Tambays will clash versus the winless Bennyville Subdivision.

Zebu Mayas is perfect this season.... Perfect Zero Wins!

He was supposed to be the “saviour”. He was suppose to lead Zebu Mayas back to the glory days after being the assists champ in Pilipinas League 2.4 last season. But fouling out of the first three games of Season 22 changed all that and Rizaldy Suguilon was sent packing with a tranfer fee of 700k last night as Zebu Mayas sustained its no win streak this season with an 0-4 record in their home game against Maroons.

Prince John Nalzaro shoot 5-10 from the 3 point area finshing with 28 points and Paul Pasana chipping in 22 points and 14 rebounds but was not enough to pull out a win losing 100-107 due to the magnificent play of Maroon's center Ronald Sandelmühle who dominated with 26 points and 13 rebounding while fouling out Francis Calo of Zebu Mayas in the process.

Lolo Smithz manager and coach of Zebu Mayas, who is already in the hot seat for a lousy campaign last season, was visibly down as he was peppered with questions and insults by reporters and fans alike for another disastrous campaign this season. “Rizaldy Suguilon was suppose to be the rock, the cornerstone of Zebu Mayas for years to come. At 23 yo he had a very bright future ahead of him but his foul troubles reared its ugly head again as we thought it had disappeared already (yes we noticed he was foul prone when we first acquired him). In order to save the season the management decided to sell him instead. We thank Rizaldy for his tremendous contribution last season especially during the relegation match. Nothing personal really but we felt by letting him go it was the right thing to do and wish him all the luck in his new team.”

“We also asked our fans to be patient as we figure out what is wrong with our team chemistry. Our no win record is really unfair and embarassing to our fans who pay good money to see us play. We just acquired two guards Ariel Domingo a 31 yo veteran of many campaigns in Swiss league 2 and 23 yo Jed Robison to shore up our back court.”

In other league 2.4 news, Team Damy is still on a warpath has he remains one of the undefeated teams with a perfect 4-0 record. With the side of his conference relatively weak, he is surely one of the favorites to top League 2.4 again but will that translate to a first finals appearance, that is the million dollar question. Perennial powerhouse Arcanix Men continues to dominate the Big 8 conference of league 2.4 with Niinja, this seasons surprise team, both having the same 4-0 records.

After Four Games, Another Round Still King of the Hill

With Pampanga Dragon's loss against MarineAdmirals, Another Round becomes the only unbeaten team left in PPL. On the Big 8 conference, four teams having a 3-1 record fight for supremacy. On the other end of the spectrum, Dahlia Mavericks seem to need an upgrade in talent as they have yet to win, and Team Polydozel, stuck in the tougher conference, has not won even with a wondrous salary.

Another Round gets hot late in the second quarter to pull away with a 92-72 win over Team Polydozel
Mariusz Rusak started out strong in the first quarter scoring 12 points on 5-8 shooting. As the second period started, Another Round was able to figure out how to defend him. With little help from his teammates, and a balanced effort from their opponents, the game quickly went out of hand and Team Polydozel were not able to recover losing their 4th straight game.

Shi Kwan Shing forces a three over Daniel Rivera to lead Dagonoy Valets with a victory over remedial kings
With 12 seconds left in the game, Shi Kwan Shing hits a contested three to give Dagonoy Valets the lead 70-67 over remedial kings. Using their trademark defense, Dagonoy Valets were able to force a miss by Reijo Ferm from three point land and secure the rebound. Paolo Magliacane missed both free throws after being fouled but Ian Bache came up with a big steal to secure the victory over remedial kings.

Manila Bombers outscores Celestial Wrath by 20 points in charity stripe to win 110-105
After getting the lead after the 2nd quarter, Celestial Wrath took the third quarter and the start of the fourth quarter to regain the lead. However, Manila Bombers were able to fight back and clutch buckets and six freebies from Lui Tze Ee was the icing on the cake as Manila Bombers secured a win over Celestial Wrath.

MarineAdmirals were unstoppable finishing with a 118-101 victory over Pampanga Dragons
Despite a valiant effort from Julius Mamicpic, he got little help as the rest of the team were only able to score 3 points in the first quarter. MarineAdmirals on the other hand shared the ball to get a 31-18 lead. Even though Mecenas and Querouz were able to help Pampanga Dragons’ offense after the first, they still found no solution to MarineAdmirals’ offense as both teams had shooting exhibitions with an average of 53% shooting.

Oliver Velasco sat out in a 30 point loss against Jam All Star
Edralin Chiong and Nicanor Lopez-Jaena did their best to keep the game competitive, but with Velasco and Poirier sitting out and Dmitrakovas out with an injury, they lack the talent level as Jam All Star won 88-118.

Pablo Valsera dunks the ball at the buzzer to give Jungle Bolo .45 a 2 point win over Lonely Hearts Club
After Victor Perfecto Silla missed to free throws, Pierre-Charles Jutras hit a three to tie the game at 92. However, Valsera, filling in for injured Ruben Talamo, was found wide open by Norman Migallos as he was double teamed. Valsera stretched out for a dunk, narrowly making it before the buzzer.

Dahlia Mavericks lose again in the 4th quarter
Dahlia Mavericks were able to get a small lead after three quarters, but late in the 4th quarter, the game was still close. palengke brawlers had different players who were able to make shots. On the other hand, Ananias Capuyan tried be the closer for Dahlia Mavericks but he was not able to generate points as Dahlia Mavericks would lose 82-85.

WPS Sentinels frustrates dilata by holding them to 63 points, 33 points below their average
WPS Sentinels clamped down on defense and holds starters Szmigiel, Glueckert and Vallejo to an atrocious 15-64(23%) shooting, including 1-26(4%) from downtown. However, WPS Sentinels were also unable to score points on their own relying on a 30-17 free throw attempt advantage to win by 12.

Petry shines as Blades win thriller at home

League III.1
OTooth @ Bacoor Blades
The Bacoor Forum
December 11, 2012
22:01

No extra periods needed.

The Bacoor Blades, through Marcos Paulo Petry's hot hands, secure their second win of the young season with a thrilling come-from-behind win against OTooth, 72-70 at The Bacoor Forum.

Down 54-42 early in the fourth quarter, baskets from Pedro Horcasitas and Mark Louis Hugos ignited a 7-0 run that saw them come to within five, 54-49. This would instigate OTooth's barrage of their own as they established an 11-point lead capped off by a Simon Adam three-pointer with 3:40 remaining.

This is when Petry started going to work. He nailed a five straight points after Horcasitas got fouled and hit his two freebies that saw then creep back to within three, 65-62 with over two minutes remaining. Spektras Skaudenas would be fouled and make both of his free throws, but a basket underneath from Eugenio Genco and a three-pointer under duress from near half-court from Petry would tie the game at 67-all. Petry would ultimately give them their first taste of the lead at 70-67 after converting on a three-point play with 12 seconds remaining in the game. On the ensuing play, OTooth's Majarón Mínguez Tahona made a triple to force another deadlock at 70-all with 7 seconds remaining.

And just as the Blades were looking lost the play after, Marcos Paulo Petry was fouled by Allan Jeffrey Ragucos on the act of shooting. The crowd erupted as the 30-year old Brazilian calmly sank the two foul shots to punch the final score

After ending the first quarter down 25-11, the game had the makings of a third straight loss for the Bacoor five, as OTooth's Simon Adam and Morgan Paolillo torched the Blades early on. They tried to fight back in the second canto but all they could do was to cut the deficit to 11, 42-21 by the end of the first half. They would be able to turn their defensive game on, however, by the second half, limiting their counterparts to just 28 points from then on.

Petry ended up with 20 points on 7-11 shooting, while Horcasitas had 15. Co-captains Kelly Paul and Mark Louis Hugos had 14 and 11 points for the Blades respectively.

OTooth were led by Adam's 19 points, with Paolillo and Gu Joon Ming had 16 markers each.

When asked regarding his shot from near half-court, game hero Petry said, "It was as if I took that shot with divine intervention. I really wanted it to go in. Sometimes, basketball is also about luck."

"We did not want to let our fans down. It was a tough campaign last season, we want to compete better this time." said team co-captain Kelly Paul.

"Maganda na nagkaroon kami ng ganitong panalo. Nasubukan kami ng husto. Magandang karanasan 'to para sa aming lahat bilang grupo." said team co-captain Mark Louis Hugos.

The win will see them escape the relegation zone as they hold an even 2-2 win-loss record, good for 5th place in the Big 8 Conference. With the loss, OTooth goes down to 6th place with a 1-3 record.
