Pilný unleashed!

The 25 year-old Slovenian Forward completed his move to Celestial and spoke glowingly about the club's history and the opportunity to play for the side.

At his press conference unveiling, it was revealed that Leopold Pilný would be taking the No. 8 shirt for the remaining matches of the current campaign. Leopold made his decision to join Celestial very clear. "I've taken the No. 8 shirt because I'm here to win an 8th title with Celestial."

"When I have to make tough decisions in my life I listen to the little boy inside me. That little boy was screaming Celestial Wrath!"

"Celestial breathes class and elegance. This club is the perfect match for me. This will add a thousand points to my attractiveness too, not that I need it," while flashing his playboy smile.

"This is a big challenge for me, which I'm looking forward to. I am proud to be here & look forward to achieving big things."

Meanwhile, there is a rumor circulating as to the reason why the Celestial legends [Abada and Dabandan] have been performing poorly during the NT games. The two players are playing abroad now, and it has been going around that the two players were forced to fly using economy class tickets only, when they were used to flying private jets at their former team. They were also given tickets to fly at the same day as their matches, causing match fatigue.

When the National team manager was asked as to why this happened, he cited budget reasons. It has been known that a certain newcomer has numerous demands, and the manager gives in to his whims. The said player is known for having his personal team of makeup artists and has been a frequent visitor of manicures and pedicures around the city.

Dahlia Mavericks getting 'healthy', defeats D Brothers 108-97
Q. Arena, Fairview, Philippines -- It's been a challenging year thus far for the Mavs as they were at the bottom of the standings in the Big 8.

They were up against respected opponent D Brothers led by team owner Iking who joked in their previous encounter for the Mavs to lose this game.

The Mavs got off to a slow start trailing D Brothers 31-22 in the first. They were 'unconscious' in the 2nd as they scored 41 points compared to D Brothers 24 leading the half with eight points, 63-55. They never looked back as they halted every Brothers rally matching point-by-point and ultimately winning 108-97.

"We are fighting for our survival so from hereon, we'll play our game as if it is our last," GM Nicolo Maro said. "no easy game Ik's, we'll try to win as much game to end the season."

Three Mavs player had a double-double with Scott Famaran scoring 31 points and 16 rebounds. Apolonio Sepulveda who 'deferred' to his teammate complimented him with 22 points, 15 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks.

"Can they co-exist? They should. We are looking for capable players to ably support them as we are determined to make our twin-towers work" GM Nicolo said.

From modeling their team with the Utah Jazz, the Mavs are leaning towards the San Antonio Spurs as they have their Admiral and TD in Fama and "Conyo". They said that they will ride these two until they retire. One joked and said "they should model themselves with the Dallas Mavericks, afterall, they're the Dahlia Mavericks.

Fillmore Sabangan also filled in with 13 points and 10 rebounds while Teodosio Amante chipped in with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists.

Ken Valdez led D Brothers scoring 29 points and grabbing 9 boards. His back-court tandem Shavit Galili had a dismal 8-29 FG shooting en route to 19 points.

GM Iking cries foul as the Mavs went to the line 42 times (converting 29 points) while his team attempted only 12. "Now that's what you call home court advantage!" he said sarcastically.

The win moves the Mavs (5-10) a notch higher in the standings eking it over Palengke Brawlers (4-11) who is dangerous despite their record as they are still in contention in the Cup.

With seven games left in the season, will the Mavs remain and compete in the Premier League or will they seriously consider and rebuild?

Mavs survives 8th seed, defeats Memongs 112-96

Q. Arena, Fairview, Philippines -- The Mavs didn't want to leave the Philippine Premier League just yet. With one more win than Brawlers entering the game, they felt uneasy but with enough confidence that they can fend them off for the chance at a relegation match against a Great 8 team.

Led by Apolonio "Conyo" Sepulveda, the Mavs were firing from all cylinders right from the start to take a 55-46 lead at the half - a rarity for them this season. They continued their pace and scored 39 points in the third to take a commanding 18-point lead entering the 4th which all but secured the Mavs 'stay' in the PPL.

During the game, Arcanix Men team owner Junnix informed the Mavs GM that if they can secure the 7th spot, he'll be up against a suddenly-defunct team in WPS Sentinel.

All were surprised with the sudden departure as d brothers ikings and JSmoove chimed in with Maro and Junnix on what happened with that team -- this all but secured the Mavs stay in the PPL as they will be facing a bot team as Palengke Brawlers can't take the tie-breaker with a game left.

"Conyo" led the Mavs with 26 points and 15 rebounds in 80% shooting (12-15) in 36 minutes. Teodosio Amante coming off-the-bench supported him with 23 points, 5 rebounds & 5 assists in 50% FG (11-22).

Fillmore Sabangan added 15 points and 7 assists while Scott Famaran also had a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards.

Memongs fielded a short rotation with 7 players led by Edralin Chiong with 27 points in 33 attempts. Benjamin Poirier chipped in with 18 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists for their squad.

Although Memongs were given 26 free throws (making 20); the Mavs dominated the board with 56 compared to their 31 caroms.

The Mavs final game will be against Big 8 1st seed Manila Bombers on a national televised game at their home and they promised to give their fans a show. It will have no implications on them but will surely give the Bombers jitters as a loss to the Mavs and a win by the Wrath against Men may propel the Wrath to take the 1st seed.

Men, at home, would also like to win against the Wrath as a loss by the All Star and a win for them will give them a chance to make the playoffs as the 4th seed. Memongs still has a shot at the playoffs provided they win by a wide margin against the Brawlers and the All Star and the Men lose significantly against their opponents.

There will also be interesting matchup in the final games of Great 8 teams as Jungle Bolo .45 will be at home against Lonely Hearts Club 21-0 record. Not only would they love to tarnish it by giving them the "L" but to also fend off ikings d brothers who would love to barge in the playoffs with a guaranteed win against Another Round.

DoG is all but assured of the third seed with a matchup against Remedial Kings who will do remedial classes in Division II.

Dahlia Mavericks end season 23 with a 7-15 record

Q. Arena, Fairview, Philippines -- The Dahlia Mavericks gave their all in front of a sellout crowd of 18,988 in their finale as they hosted PPL Big 8 1st seed Manila Bombers.

Although there is no implication for them (Mavs), they wanted to treat their fans for their unwavering support during this trying season. It was a high-scoring affair that those who came in attendance saw the distinct games of the two competitors: The Bombers fired away from distance while the Mavs pounded the ball inside.

The Mavs ended up losing 115-122 that only proves the Bombers deserve their 1st place seeding in the Big 8.

Apolonio "Conyo" Sepulveda led the Mavs with 25 points and 8 rebounds clearly wanting to win this game for their fans. "Before the game, we were contemplating whether to let our young guys do their thing or play spoilers -- we chose the latter." Sepu said sheepishly. "but, it just shows that we are behind among our peers. We will return better next season."

Veteran Ananias Capuyan who has so much pride in him had 21 points, 6 assists and 4 steals but it wasn't enough to stop the onslaught of Achille Caetta and Xiao Kangbo who scored 26 and 22 points respectively.

Lui Tze Ee added 22 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists while Danny Conley got the better of Scott Famaran with 20 points and 10 rebounds as Fama was plagued with foul trouble the entire game but managed to chip in 10 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocks in just 17 minutes.

The fans got a glimpse of the Mavs 'future' as they started Claudio Regala to experience playing in one of the biggest stage in the game -- at home, season finale, in front of a soldout crowd.

AJ Magoncia fared better as well as he put 14 points in just 12 minutes all pointing towards a positive feeling heading to the next season.

"We didn't know what happened to our counterparts in the Great 8 (referring to WPS Sentinel and Another Round) but it's always sad to see someone going away," GM Nicolo Maro said. "It would have been exciting to compete in a relegation match with no guarantee of staying in the Premier League but we'll take it -- that we're safe."

As for their immediate plans in the future? Mavs GM Nicolo said that they are committed to develop Regala and Sepulveda not just for the benefit of their team but for the country as well. "If we played our cards well, Sepu should be the best big man for the Philippines and Regala should be one of the best guards as well."

Notes:
Jungle Bolo .45 blemished Lonely Hearts Club perfect season by winning 111-99 in the Jingle. The Bolo fielded on 7 players which proved to be effective to make LHC's record 21-1. It looks like LHC's composure isn't shaken as they will be facing the same team in the 1st round of the playoffs.

Perhaps giving their all just to make the playoffs is worth it. If they didn't, d brothers would have made it. Will they pull another upset against LHC in a one and done matchup?

Asked for his opinion, the Mavs GM said "although I love to see upsets, us [Mavs] being underdogs most of the time, there is no way they can stop the onslaught of the Hearts. We would have done the same just to barge in the playoffs."

Mavs in a hiatus, asks fans to be 'patient'

Q. Arena, Fairview, Philippines -- Mavs owner Yo Chi and GM Nicolo Maro is on a 'business' trip as they will be traveling for 1-2 months in the Visayas / Mindanao region.

This was announced by coach Doc in the Q as he received the announcement from the ownership. "GM Nicolo Maro sent me a text message from Tacloban asking fans to be patient as their hands-on approach will not be evident in the coming months," Doc said. "we will try to stay afloat, be competitive, but this is the season that we'll be vulnerable."

A reporter asked why the sudden absence of the ownership and Doc said "they are very busy with their lives. Their Mavs was created as a pure source of fun."

Weak draft
The organization is looking forward in this year's draft but the result turned out to be much weaker than they thought of. Although they get what they wanted in PF Jomar Montallana, guard Paul Carim and Denny Gaona; this years draft produced only one potential superstar in 2nd overall pick Cyril Sustiguer which was drafted by now-defunct, relegated Another Round.

Mavs 'back' acquires 23 y/o Rhyan Tersol

Q. Arena, Fairview, Philippines -- After announcing a week ago that the Mavs management will not be hands-on in their approach of the team this season, most were surprised to see them acquire promising 23 y/o center Rhyan Tersol.

"What the hell just happened?" one surpised fan asked. "we were ready to support this team - even in losing - but the acquisition caught us by surprise."

In a brief statement, Mavs GM Nicolo Maro said 'due to recent developments with our businesses, we have no choice but to return -- and that means having time managing our beloved Mavericks team."

GM Nicolo Maro warned that "at the course of the season, our business may ask us to travel around the country that we have no choice but to make the most out of the cards that we're dealing."

It's good to see the Mavs back to add spice in the healthy competition among the PPL teams. It's definitely a loss for the fans not seeing managers go at it in the highest level.

Dahlia Mavericks acquires former U21 Benigno Basa

Q. Arena, Fairview, Philippines -- During halftime of their league game against the Marine Admirals, it was announced that the Mavs acquired former U21 team member Benigno Basa.

Known for their 'thrifty' ways, it was an unprecented move for the organization as they bought him for $1.33M. Mobbed by reporters, owner Yo Chi was asked what he thought of the transaction made by his GM Nicolo Maro.

"Going into debt? No problem. You see, he is only 22 years old. It would be a waste to see such talent go in another country. If we can absorb a player -- a potential National Team member - then we will spend."

GM Nicolo Maro who oversee the transaction in a text message said: "We were given the go-signal of our proud owner to bid for Mr. Basa. We are very happy to acquire him. This is our commitment as we are proud to be in the PPL with an All-Pinoy team!"

Mr. Basa who was reached thru phone said that he is 'very excited' to play for the Mavs organization. He is looking forward to meet his teammates and help the Mavs in any way he can.

With the acquisition of Benigno Basa, it creates a logjam in the 4-5 spot as they recently acquired Rhyan Tersol and stalwarts Scott Famaran and Apolonio Sepulveda. What will they do? If there's a team we shouldn't doubt -- it's the Mavs. They are doing everything they can to win (for their fans) and bring pride (for the country) by having those capable Pinoy ballers at bay.

Instant classic: Memongs stays atop defeats Dahlia Mavericks 126-115

Q. Arena, Fairview, Philippines -- It was a rainy night afternoon but that didn't deter more than 15 thousand fans to flock the Q. in what would be a thrilling down-to-the wire game between the Dahlia Mavericks and Memongs. Dahlia Mavericks, coming from a crushing defeat against Zennings, vowed to come out stronger in this game than their last outing threatening Memongs bid at the top to start their respective PPL campaign.

During the first quarter, the Mavs roared and scored 29 points compared to Memongs 22. They were leading at the half (60-54) until the tide favored Memongs in the latter part of the fourth.

For almost 10 minutes, the Mavs and Memongs exchanged baskets back and forth. With 2:41 left, Memongs Nicolas Lopez-Jaena hit a jumper (his 5th in a row) that gives Memongs a two-point lead, 113-111. The Mavs weren't able to convert a basket in more than a minute until Santos Verano hits a layup with 1:09 left that makes it 116-113 in favor of Memongs.

In the ensuing possession, Jaena wasn't done as he hit a crucial three from the wing to make it 119-113 that forced the Mavs to call a full timeout. After the timeout, it was a nicely done play as Capuyan converts a pass from Verano to make it 119-115.

National Team player Pete Montallana calmly hits the free throw to make it 121-115 - it was a free throw contest by then for Memongs. AJ Magoncia attempted back-to-back three pointers to no avail. He was also charged with an offensive foul that seals the win for Memongs.

"I thought our guys did a pretty decent job up to the last minute," GM Nicolo Maro said. "the night is crying as Magoncia had a bad night hitting just 4-18 FG's, 1-7 in 3pts."

Lopez-Jaena led the visitors with 29 points in 11-16 shooting. He was ably supported by NT player Pete Montallana (28 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists) while being aggressive in the lane hitting 11-12 from the line. Rotem Blum had a double-double with 22 points, 13 rebounds and 3 blocks while Jan Belesic was efficient with 20 points and 8 assists in 9-15 shooting.

Edralin Chiong scored 13 points in 10 minutes while Chinese center Qian Chaoxiong grabbed 18 boards.

"We know that the Mavericks didn't want to lose this one so we came out aggressive," Don Manoah said. "the fourth-quarter was outstanding and I couldn't be happier with our guys."

What's left of the 33-year old Ananias Capuyan, he layed it in this game as he scored a game high 37 points with 5 rebounds and 4 assists in 15-21 shooting with no turnovers. He was even cited by counterpart Jaena and Montallana in his gutsy play but it wasn't enough to lead the Mavs with a W.

Fillmore Sabangan chipped in with 22 points while Apolonio Sepulveda had a double-double with 20 points and 10 boards. Scott Famaran had a dubious night as he was supposed to be the most effective player scoring 9 points and 6 rebounds but was fouled out in only 15 minutes of play.

The team was most critical with AJ Magoncia as he miss shots after shots. Was it just a bad night or the team is looking for that elite guard to put them over the top?

On a night like this, the players weren't available for comment but it was evident that they were frustrated with the 22% shooting of their 'shooting' guard. It didn't help that the refs gave more free throws attempt to Memongs 42 (making 31) compared to Mavs 20 (hitting 15).

Next game: Dahlia Mavericks at Celestial Wrath. Surely JSmoove will bounce back from a humiliating defeat against Arcanix Men. How will the Mavs react against them coming from a tiring loss as well?

Blades get hot from three; quell Black fox

League III.13 Elimination Round
Bacoor Blades @ Black fox
20:11

Using a fourth quarter surge that saw them drain multiple key three-point bombs, the Bacoor Blades get their third straight victory at the expense of hosts Black fox at the Cuneta Astrodome, 103-91.

It was a nip-and-tuck affair for the first three quarters and even in the opening moments of the fourth. In the first quarter, sophomore Blades guard Regan Elizaga and Black fox forward Gianfranco Cupitò lit up the scoreboard for 10 points each in the period as the Blades led, 24-23.

The second quarter saw more of the same furious exchanges as they traded leads. But the second chance points created by Nello Rapaccioli and Constante Pedreira gave the home team a lift that pushed them up by three, 47-44, entering the second half.

After the break, the crossfire ensued, as neither team gave the other a slight chance to take a huge lead. Elizaga torched the scoreboard again, receiving passes from guard Boris Buzhan, with the latter finally beginning to convert from the perimeter. This development shot them back in the lead by five, but a defensive lapse saw the hosts take two points off the deficit as they had to settle with a three point edge, 72-69 entering the final period.

Clutch baskets from beyond the arc, primarily by Elizaga and Buzhan, saw them extend the lead to as much as 11 points. But the hosts would make fightbacks and close the gap to at least six points. But a barrage of three pointers from their starting backcourt, along with a triple by Kelly Paul and even center Antoine Fauvel, translated to a larger gap as the possessions passed.

A key development for Black fox was the fouling out of starting center Rapaccioli, which gave Eugenio Genco a chance to assert himself underneath. Black fox tried to play the foul game but ceased to as the gap widened.

Elizaga scored a season-high 29 points, improving not only his previous high of 19 from the last game againts JORDANZ, he was also more efficient from the field with an 11-for-17 clip, and 2-for-6 from beyond the arc compared to a miserable 1-for-12 the last time around. Buzhan backed him up with 21 points and 11 assists. Kelly Paul had 16 and 10 rebounds while Genco had 11 and 10 for the Cavite ballclub.

"It was a nice game for me. But I would not have done what I did if not for Boris's passes, especially early in the first quarter. He got me going and I was able to put myself in a position to make good shots." said the 6'4" Filipino ward.

"It was like a boxing match featuring two prized fighters in the first three and a half quarters." said Kelly Paul. "But in the end, we were able to find that little extra to take control of the game."

But despite the win, the Blades slide back to seventh place due to baracuda team tying up the point differential of the Blades at -56, which was broken by the fact that they won against Bacoor on opening day.

"We're not concerned about that for now. We just want to build on this run we're having and hope we can make the most out of it." said team manager TheDogMan.

"We've won our last four games. We have a Cup game ahead and we hope to make more waves there." the Blades gaffer added, referring to their next Cup assignment, going up against In Your Face Tinambulan, a Division V team. The game shall be on the 11th of July at 5:30 pm.
