Pokémon BC's Cinderella's story finishes with a defeat

Pokémon BC went into the season with low hopes of going to the playoffs and just building a better squad to contend for the championship League III.9. Even team General Manager Pokéfan stated before the season started that we would be lucky enough just losing 10 games this season and will barely go through to the playoffs.

When the season started the franchise started with a 0-2 record which made the franchise panicked for a while and rethink it's strategy going forward into the season. After changing some tactics and made some future plans for the season the team surprisingly finished 5-2 after the first parts of the season. The hope to be U21 player Nigell Fainsan said after the first 7 games of the season that the team would try to win more games than the projected record by the General Manager.

Going into the clash with the Great 8, the favorites to win the league, SPWR Aces will face the team just after a hard cup game against CKG Conquistador. The team was tired and emotionally drained in that game which lead to a defeat in the hands off the Aces with the score of 109-94. With that being our third loss of the season, the board had decided to sign a new player to try to strengthen the team and there the 7'0" Center Juan Niembro was signed.

Few weeks later one of the toughest week in franchise history came in the All Star week. The team was disappointed that not one franchise player entered the All Star game but was excited to face the former Philippines Cup champion Skyville. The scouting team was scouting every game of Skyville and every player that Skyville had just to be on the winning edge of the game but in the end after a nail-biting game the team prevailed. After some celebrations in the court, the team after that game went together and waited nervously who would be the next opponent for the franchise going forward and there it was said that the Division II club Cresta Verde Mountaineers will face the team in the Pokémon Center. Not one player in the team watched the All Star game and just went into the gym and just prepare against the Division II club. After the game, the Mountaineers' Renald Geonanga had a career game scoring 51 points (22-28 fg) with 16 boards but the club ruined that game for Geonanga and gave the Mountaineers a lost with the final score of 121-113. And in that game the team broke the deepest cup run in franchise history after the team just broke the record just last season.

Going into the 2nd part of the same conference battle the team had a 12-3 record and was just sitting in the 2nd seed in the conference then a miracle had happened for the club. Teardrops got an upset loss against BC LiOns- which gave them the record of 14-2 going into our game and gave us hope of getting the first seed in the conference. After the win against Teardrops, the team knew that Teardrops won't drop anymore games and the first seed will be decided in the tie break. Luckily for the franchise, the team swept that part of the season and went into the playoffs in the first seed of the Big 8. The GM ate his own words and said the team was stronger than he thought it was.

In the playoffs, the team had to face BC LiOns- in the first round. The team won that game and went preparing immediately into the gym and prepare for Teardrops. The scouting team went scouting into Teardrops and surprisingly found a way to defeat Teardrops and it lead the way to the first ever finals appearance of the franchise in a division III league. Going against SPWR Aces, we felt that we are the underdogs in that matchup and just hoped for the best going into the game. After an easy victory for the Aces in the first game we had to scout again. But in the end after 3 games, the Cinderella season of the team finished with a Runners-up award in the league. Going forward, Team Captain Nigell Fainsan is hoping next season will be a better one for the team.

Back to PPL!

Palma Hall - After a low scoring first half tied at 36, the underdog PRO Tambays managed to outscore the powerful Maroons at the fourth grabbing their 2nd title on Philippine League 2.4 with the score of 85-73.

It's Pacquing time!

Ernest Pacquing scored 8 points in fourth quarter including a 30 foot dagger that increased the lead to 8 but the Maroons managed to narrow it to 74-73 with 1:38 minutes left after Gentapanan drops a long range bomb. But it was their last basket, Sitin answered the Gentapanan's three and Cantara delivered the final blow with his 3 after Abada's miss which sealed their ticket to PPL.

Who's HOT: NT Player "Mr. Fantastico" Abada tallied 20 pts who used his NT experience at 4th that narrowed the Tambay's lead. Tambay's Center Fedor Pavlovich who contributed 19 points, 11 rebounds and gave the League's MVP Gener Juan Umadhay a 3/16 FG performance with his tight defense (but with 20 rebounds).

Who's NOT: Ulan Cantara managed to shoot 4/19 FG even though he delivered clutch 3 and freethrow. He finished with 11 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists. Alex Evan David for the Maroons who got only 6/17 FG. The two were defending each other the whole night.

Back on their rookie days

Averaging 11ppg, 6.4apg,1.3spg and 13pph, 3.3rpg, 1.3spg that was Ulan Cantara and Ernest Pacquing's numbers respectively when they were a rookie. The manager tanked when the Tambays on the Philippine Premier League (PPL) after they acquire their future Duo - Cantara and Pacquing.

"I'm so glad that my first time playing as a Pro was on PPL." said Ulan Cantara, who managed to shoot with a dismal 16.7FG% in his rookie days. "Ernest and me came in the league with some shitty numbers, we're glad the management helped us to grow not just a player, but as individuals with discipline and pride." he added. When asked if he's ready to the next level, he responded "Definitely, I'm ready to "rain" my talents on the PPL again. I'm excited, very very excited."
