It was a great second season for the Gremlins with similarities of the first season and some drama at the end of the regular season. This was an up and down season like no other. Once again the Gremlins started slowly and had to battle through early season adversity.
The Gremlins hit rock bottom when they lost to the worst team in the league. At that point the Gremlins fell to 3-4 and into 6th place out of the playoff picture. Just like last season the Gremlin players were seen walking off the court with sad faces and their heads handing down. The locker room was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop.
Once again the Gremlins coach called a special team meeting to be sure that every one was on the same page. The Gremlins responded by playing much better against the Great 8 going 6-2, losing only to Doggy Double G and Madhatters on the road.
When the Gremlins lost to Fighting Halibut they fell to 5th place and out of the playoff picture. The Gremlins were faced with a must win game on the road against a team that had beaten them 4 straight times, Skillz That Killz. The Gremlins played one of their best games of the season as they survived a Skillz crunch to win the game and get back into the playoff picture.
When the Gremlins lost to Sabercats at home they once again fell to 5th place and out of the playoff picture. Time was running out with only 3 games left in the season. The Gremlins were faced with another must win game this time against The Americans who had roughed them up first in a scrimmage and then in a league game. Unlike the other 2 games this game was at home and center Daniel Ramos played in the game. The Gremlins survived an American crunch to win the game and get back into the playoff picture.
The playoff race came down to the last day of the regular season. The Gremlins were in 4th place and had yet another must win game or risk missing the playoffs. The Gremlins were able to beat Ravens-lakers in front of their home crowd to clinch a playoff spot on the last game of the regular season. Their loyal fans gave them a long standing ovation reminiscent of last season.
With some good luck in the scheduling that the Sabercats could have used the Gremlins were able to sneak into 2nd place in the Big 8 for the only time in their 2 seasons in this league.
In Round 1 of the playoffs the Gremlins had a rematch against their playoff opponent from last season, Skillz That Killz. This time the Gremlins had the home court in their favor. That might have been the difference as the Gremlins survived a Skillz playoff crunch to win their first playoff game in this league. Once again their loyal fans gave them a long standing ovation knowing that this would be their last home game of the season.
In the semi-finals the Gremlins traveled to Alaska to play a Fighting Halibut team that they have never beaten. The Gremlins played their hearts out but it was not enough. Halibut proved to be too much and this ended a memorable second season for the Gremlins. Tears of joy filled the Gremlin locker room knowing that they all did their very best.
A group of loyal Gremlin fans gathered at the airport to welcome home the team and congratulate them on their season. Hopefully next season will be even better for the entire Gremlin organization and their fans.
