After a very painful loss in the Final of the African Cup, Coach Fairness wants to win again. In a little season-preview talk, he told us some interesting facts about his squad, his goals and his ideas:
Press: "Hi Fairness! How is the preparation going?"
FN: "It's quite fine. I did a lot of work this week, but the first part, the scouting, is finished now. The longlist is out, the managers are contacted, now I've got one week to get a good staff and put together a strong team that's worthy to compete at such a tournament."
Press: "Please describe us, how Egypt's WC squad will look like?"
FN: "Our team will be as old as the last. We'll have 16 really good guys, what means two open spaces for guys that train well during the season. This year's team will be even better defensively, what's the most important thing for me."
Press: "You've got so many good guys in this country. Why do you have so many 25k to 40k players on your longlist?"
FN: "The most of those are 23 or younger. I want to show their managers that their guys have chances to play for our NT, so I hope that many of them will still receive training."
Press: "So is that the reason for your decision to let a U25 squad play tomorrow?"
FN: "Yes, that's one of the reasons. I also want to see those youngsters on the international floor, and I'm sure the members of BB-Misr want to see that too."
Press: "You worked with those youngsters now some days, what can you say about them?"
FN: "There are the four experienced NT players, El-Ibrahim, Saigh, Arabi and Ibn-Osman. Then there are those who can reach the NT in one or two seasons, like Omar, El-Amal, Kaleel, Bilal Issa and Khawalani."
Press: "You're a coach that also looks in the future. How will this NT look like in 4-5 seasons?"
FN: "I think Arabi will be the leader of this team. El-Ibrahim is 29 then, and stronger than ever. Then there are guys like Omar, Bilal Issa, Khawalani and for sure some of those very talented 18-year-olds we saved last year. Damn, this team will be nice, I'll think about coaching them then haha "
Press: "Alright. Let's come back to the present, what are your goals for this season?"
FN: "We naturally want to bother those big nations and maybe we get one or two wins. It will be very difficult this season, but my staff, my team and I will do our best to show ourselves from our best side."
Press: "How would you describe the recent situation here in Egypt?"
FN: "It's impressive! When I came here in Season 17, there were about 30 active teams, now there are 94! I hope the most of those keep playing and involve a bit in this community. The only thing I don't like is, that those guys in Egypt don't really like to communicate via Forum :-D "
Press: "What do you plan after this season? Will you stay here in Misr?"
FN: "It's to early to talk about that, but right now I wouldn't say no to two more years here. We'll see."
Press: "Ok, thanks for the interview. Cu in some weeks then!"
FN: "You're welcome."
