Consolation Qualification

After falling heavily in Belgium 114-98, Ireland has three wins on the trot, defeating Romania, South Korea, and Malta. Halfway through the qualification phase, Ireland is sitting on a 3-1 record, good enough for 21st in the consolation standings which would comfortably qualify them for the knockout stage.

"We've been playing fantastic basketball, and getting contributions from the experienced players as well as the youngsters like Brian MacConnell and Graham MacCarrghamhna," said the coach. "The club teams are keeping our players in good form, and the players have been willing to fill whatever role we've asked them to play."

"We're in a good position right now," said Anton O'Callaghan, who has averaged 18 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 assists in Ireland's three wins. "We feel like we have winnable games coming up and there's no reason why we shouldn't be able to qualify for the knockout round."
