Tonight marks the dawn of a new Era: the induction of Morwood's Rouge et Or into the BuzzerBeater's Division Three Brotherhood. Now technically, we've already been accepted into the division, but tonight marks our debut. The home crowd will hopefully be rockin'. If Budding young superstar centre Antonio Aparecido Prego has anything to say about it, the night will be a success for the home squad.
Rouge et Or fans, let's meet your starting lineup for opening night:
PG
Gilbert Bouthot- Although technically a shooting guard by nature, homegrown Canadian talent Bouthot is a very good distributor, who comes up big later in games when the younger kids tend to panic a bit. This should come in handy, while the kids get used to this new division. There are going to be many kinks to work out, so having a key veteran like this guy, should go a long way. "Vive la liberté!"
SG
Rodrigo Brenta- This guy is hungry for the net!! Enough said. With Bouthot content to distribute, Brenta is free to unleash his fury, as he did on the United States during the Canada-US War Scrimmage Game, when he poured in 38 points. Another grey beard who GM Morwood is depending on to steer the " Good Ship Morwood" during the season.
SF
Matija Dogovic- A recent addition to the team, this guy has yet to really show GM Morwood everything he can do. Up to this point he has proven a nice all-around game (13pts,12rebs,6assists,4steals) during his first game with the team, but GM Morwood is really hoping that he can open it up on the offensive end and relieve some of the pressure off of Brenta. Either way, he is a welcome addition in both ability and leadership.
PF
Elie Gravel- Another homegrown Canadian, this 21 year old trainee, is not our usual power forward, but we are trying to showcase some local talent on opening night, as well as train him so that some day he may be able to step into the starting role. He is a bit small for a power forward at 6'4, but he can be a tenacious rebounder at times, and even well-rounded at times, accomplishing a triple double in his first start of season last year.
C
Antonio Aparecido Prego- Although only 21, this man has already become our most important, and probably are best player. Acquired during the season 18 playoffs, and ineligible to help out during that period, he has been on a roll since. He has been a tenacious rebounder, and the team seems to play with so much more energy whenever he comes on the floor. His offensive rebounding keeps so many drives alive. The sky is the limit for this guy. Gm Morwood certainly thinks he's found his cornerstone in the middle in this guy.
Overall, there is alot of optimism on this team. That being said, this is a process, and growing pains are likely. The goal of this team is to finish 3rd or 4th in the division, which is a fair goal for the first season in a new division, and second overall season for this new GM and franchise. Our franchise looks forward to a great turnout on opening night!!
