It is a dark time for Team Canada. Although the Death Star has been destroyed, some ferocious basketball teams have driven us from our hidden base, and sent us fleeing across the galaxy.
Attempting to evade the dreaded international powerhouses, a group of freedom fighters led by the young David Castro has established a new secret base at the North Pole.
The evil consolation round schedule makers, obsessed with finding the new Canadian U21 hopefuls, have dispatched thousands of remote probes.... Or, um, something like that. This season, we will be starting directly in the consolation round. While we are out of the running for the upcoming world championships, we do get a slight edge in the race to secure home court advantage for the season 18 Americas Championships.
While several other good teams from the Americas will be playing at world's or in the repechage, we will start with 2 consolation round games (home against Greece, and then on the road against Lithuania). After that, an additional 6 game schedule will be generated, and 9 teams from the repechage will joing the tournament with automatic 0-2 records.
Our goal will be to make the consolation round playoff bracket, and manage to finish with the highest placing of any team from our continent. While the schedule will play a large role in determining our fate, I'm excited about the season, and hopefully we will be able to have many great games out of the court.
May the force be with usOr something like that.
