Another Slow Start for the Chunks

Heading into interconference play, the New York Chunks unfortunately find themselves in what has become very familiar territory – in a deep hole after a slow start. At 2-5, the Chunks are still one game better than last year’s shockingly awful pace. However, last season brought about tremendous change that is very unlikely this time around. The biggest roster overhaul in team history was credited for reviving the Chunks season and lifting them out of the relegation playoffs to a 10-12 record and a 5th place finish. This season will probably not see anything near that level of roster change as player development is more of a priority than in recent seasons, particularly after Chunks’ strongest draft the team has ever seen.

Currently sitting 6th place, the Chunks will begin the middle third of the schedule in a must-win televised home game against the Reston Thumpers. Last season was a lesson in hope and another reminder that Chunks are a team that can work past an early stumble. But fans are eager for the Chunks to look like a team that can do more than survive. Still without a .500 season in Division II, the Chunks need to find the chemistry of a contender. It is likely too late this season to make a serious push for the playoffs, but perhaps with the next generation of Chunks quickly improving, the Chunks will rise to the top of USA II.I within a few seasons.
