Season 59 - Blessed Babies Bring Beautiful Bounty

The Irish u21s season 59 has come to a graceful end with a knockout game loss to higher ranked Romania by 5 points. This is the second time the Irish Team has reached the knockout phases in 3 seasons of the tournament which is a. honorable feat. The Irish team climbed from 68th to a high of 52nd and settling at 55th at time of this article. Finishing with a competitive record of 6-3 with some massive wins against Germany (11th), Uruguay (33rd) and Taiwan (24th).

This year’s team has been more balanced than previous years, with bigs holding their own once again and more depth in the guard spots made this year’s team one of the best in recent seasons/years. Some tremendous talent has been produced this year with a couple of players hoping to go National Team if they continue their sturdy progression. The off-court distractions of Irish Basketball President Michael ET Higgins activities with bees haven’t interfered with the team’s spirt according to team captain Kevin O’Neil whose shares in this venture have exploded to record highs.
It’s the time again where we bid farewell to our hero’s of the season, we will remember players such as Eamonn “Sugar” Brown who finished 3rd all time in Irish U21 scoring, Paul “Sherlock” Holmes for his incredible consistency, Lee “Today’s bread today” Brennan for steadying the ship, Brian “Sure why not” Kernaghan for rising to occasion our lovely 3 way bigs who showed how great we can be – Kevin “I wish for cheese” O’Neil, Shawn “Sean” Flaharthy, Ian “Gandalf” Synnott.

Next season could be a poor, could be okay – there are 14 players moving on with 4 remaining so it won’t be as strong as this year but we will keep on trucking on with our face to the wind and our belly’s to the sky.
